DENSO Auto Parts Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Angie Smith will sit out the rest of the 20th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals after an accident Friday night while doing motor maintenance on her Buell.
“I was changing valve springs on the motor, which I’ve done 200 times, and when I swung a hammer to break it loose, I hit the first quarter of my finger and split it completely in two,” the 2x national event winner Smith explained. “We went to the emergency room, and they put stitches in it and a nerve blocker, but I crushed all the bones on the end of my left index finger.”

Brittany Force’s dominance in Top Fuel qualifying kept going full speed ahead at the Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway Friday.
Force clocked a track record 3.682-second pass at 328.94 mph to claim the provisional top spot in NHRA’s Camping World Series event.

Steve Torrence is used to being the class of the NHRA Camping World Series Top Fuel class.
He’s the reigning three-time world champion and now he’s the No. 1 qualifier at the Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway.

Veteran nitro Funny Car driver Tim Wilkerson has been on a solid run the last couple of months, highlighted by his win at the U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend at Indianapolis.
Wilkerson is still going strong as evidenced by his grabbing the provisional No. 1 qualifying spot at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series 20th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Friday evening.

For the first time since 2016, nitro Funny Car driver Alexis DeJoria will be starting an NHRA national event from the No. 1 qualifying position.
That became a reality when she clocked a 3.907-second elapsed time at 326.79 mph in the final qualifying session Saturday.

For the third time in the 2021 NHRA Camping World Series season, Pro Stock Motorcycle pilot Scotty Pollacheck will start from the No. 1 qualifying spot.
Pollacheck, who clocked a 6.859-second ET at 197.80 mph, snared the No. 1 qualifying position at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn., Saturday aboard his EBR entry.

Top Fuel points leader and three-time defending world champ Steve Torrence powered to the track record on Saturday at Bristol Dragway, making the quickest run in Bristol history to qualify No. 1 at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals.
Alexis DeJoria (Funny Car) and Scotty Pollacheck (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also qualified No. 1 at the 18th of 20 races during the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season and the fifth race in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. In all, five of the six possible track records were broken during qualifying on Saturday at Bristol, which is hosting its first NHRA playoff races in track history.

Virginia’s own Tommy Franklin threw down a 3.638-second pass to grab the provisional No. 1 spot in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous on Friday night at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Brian Olson Memorial World Finals presented by ProCharger. Two Saturday qualifying sessions remain to set the fields for Sunday eliminations at Virginia Motorsports Park.
