BARKLAGE TRAILER FIRE

Torco's CompetitionPlus.com has learned that SUPER CHEVY Nitro Coupe
racers and longtime Pro Modified competitors Zach and Cody Barklage's
trailer caught fire on the way to the SUPER CHEVY event in West Palm
Beach, Florida. A team spokesperson said at 5 PM, the team had just
arrived at the track and it is too early to full assess any damage
reports. Apparently, the hardest hit of the two was Zach's 1957 Chevy.
Cody's GTO was upstairs and appears undamaged. No word on the cause of
the fire or whether they will compete this weekend.

BIG NHRA PM WEEKEND

More than $130,000 in prizes and purse money is on the table as the AMS Pro Mod
Challenge presented by Tindle Enterprises, Inc. contests its last event of the
season at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the ACDelco NHRA Vegas
Nationals this weekend. In addition to the $30,000 event purse and the $50,000
BAE Championship Cup Championship purses which will be awarded after the event,
eight drivers will compete for their share of the $50,000 ProCare Rx Pro Mod
Clash awards.

Texan Josh Hernandez has already clinched the $25,000 top
prize and World Championship title in the BAE Championship Cup, but the
remaining $25,000 will be divided amongst the other top ten still vying for a
position. Second place Raymond Commisso currently has a more than 200-point lead
over 2006 World Champion Jay Payne, but with more than 500 points up for grabs -
100 points per round-win - the No. 2 spot is still up for grabs.  In the hunt
for the $5,000 third place purse are Canadian Tony Pontieri, series presenting
sponsor Tim Tindle and Ohio trucking mogul Steve Engel.

The mood was
jovial on the first-ever ProCare Rx Clash Public Pairings teleconference held
Tuesday night. The eight drivers competing in the Clash joined together to learn
their fate in the first round, and jabs were taken as each tried to position
himself with any advantage possible. Since the ProCare Rx SuperNationals in
Englishtown, New Jersey, competitors have been earning points based on their
qualifying position and consistency in their qualifying efforts.

FORCE STILL WEIGHING OPTIONS

j_force.jpgJohn Force said Wednesday that he will send a full complement of Team Castrol
Ford Mustangs to this week’s ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las
Vegas Motor Speedway, but the 14-time NHRA Funny Car champion stopped short of
confirming the participation of either Rookie-of-the-Year contender Ashley
Force, rookie-to-be Mike Neff or Phil Burkart Jr., who tested impressively with
the team last week.

“We have some new data and it looks like we still have issues,” Force
said.  “All I can say right now is that I have cleared Robert Hight to race in
the Automobile Club of Southern California Ford.  Decisions will be made on the
other three cars after I talk with my crew chiefs again in Las Vegas.”

Still recovering from injuries suffered in a Sept. 23rd crash at the Texas
Motorplex, Force cited “chassis issues” as the reason for his indecision.  He
would not elaborate further, but said he okayed Hight to compete because his car
was built by a different manufacturer than the other three.

The heat-treating process has become the subject of debate in the weeks
since the chassis beneath Force’s Castrol-backed Ford pulled apart after a tire
failed for reasons not yet determined, leaving the 125-time tour winner’s legs
exposed.  Nevertheless, Force said Wednesday that heat treating is not the only
issue currently being addressed by his team.

WILDFIRES WON'T AFFECT VEGAS, POMONA

Due to the recent outbreak of wildfires
throughout Southern California, many fans have contacted NHRA regarding
the status of the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, scheduled for Oct.
25-28 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and the Automobile Club
of Southern California NHRA Finals, scheduled for Nov. 1-4 at Auto Club
Raceway at Pomona.

GM'S 3-CAR PS BATTLE

D_Connolly.jpgNHRA's inaugural Countdown to the Championship starts its first leg of the
two-race championship round, the Countdown to 1, at this weekend's ACDelco Las
Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, three of the four drivers
eligible for Pro Stock's Countdown to 1 in Pro Stock will be in GM-branded cars as
Pontiac driver Greg Anderson and Chevrolet drivers Dave Connolly's and Jeg Coughlin begin their championship hunt.

"We're going to continue to test
all the way until we get up to Vegas," Connolly said. "We're going to try to
have the best race car possible when it comes down to that Countdown to 1. If we
have the success we did with the Countdown to 4, we're looking pretty good.
We're going to take it one round at a time just like we have all season. With
the pressure of Las Vegas, there's going to be a little added pressure, but
we're going to deal with it the best we can, and whatever happens, happens. It's
definitely not going to be lack of effort by no means."

The 24-year-old
Connolly enters Las Vegas on a historic winning streak, winning all four races
of the Countdown to 4 first-round playoff races behind the wheel of his Torco
Racing Fuels/Seelye Wright Chevy Cobalt and five straight races overall. The
Ohio native has a class-leading eight race wins on the season and has put his
name on a pretty elite list of drivers to have won five consecutive Pro Stock
races, joining the legendary Bob Glidden (9 consecutive wins), Ronnie Sox (5)
and Greg Anderson (5). Connolly enters the Countdown to 1 as the class leader
with 3,030 points and is looking for the first POWERade championship of his
young career.
