Reigning two-time NHRA Pro Stock world champion Erica Enders is right in the mix to win three in a row and the fifth of her career after her performance Sunday in St. Louis.

Enders won the NHRA Midwest Nationals for the third year in a row, beating Dallas Green in the finals.

In a dominant performance at World Wide Technology Raceway 2020 Factory Stock Showdown world champion Aaron Stanfield made it two in a row clinching the 2021 Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown when his closest competitors, David Barton and Jesse Alexandra, lost in the first round today at the NHRA Midwest Nationals. Stanfield was the No. 1 qualifier and defeated Kim Shirley, David Janac, John Cerbone and Leonard Lottig on the way to his second victory of the season.

“I didn’t know too much about the championship scenarios, I just knew I needed to go some rounds to clinch it,” said Stanfield, who opened the season with a win at the historic Gatornationals. “We had a lot of confidence. We worked hard, and we found some power to get our race car working a little bit better. We made some nice laps this weekend.”

For the second time this season, 2019 Factory Stock Showdown champion Aaron Stanfield qualified No. 1 at a Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown national event. On the final day of qualifying at the NHRA Midwest Nationals from World Wide Technology Raceway Stanfield made the two quickest runs to solidify his position at the top of the field. In the final session he bettered his previous best run with a blistering 3.765 second pass at 176.12 mph.
 
“That last run felt like poetry in motion,” said Stanfield, who was the No. 1 qualifier at the Dodge Mile-High Nationals. “The front end didn’t come up too much because the track was pretty tight. We were able to keep the front end down. It set me back in the seat pretty good. I could tell it was a really good run.”

​If only Matt Hagan could have seen from the outside of the car the show he and Ron Capps put on for the race fans at World Wide Technology Raceway during qualifying for the NHRA Midwest Nationals.

For two days, the defending NHRA Funny Car champion and his Don Schumacher Racing teammate put on a speed clinic with 3.8-second runs, and after running 332s in Saturday's final session, upped the ante to 333.25.

The age-old quote dictates that luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Luck has nothing to do with Top Fuel racer Mike Salinas' Friday 3.652 elapsed time in Friday's Q-1 session at the NHRA Midwest Nationals. 

Tuners Alan Johnson and Brian Husen had the Salinas Scrapper dragster running on mean. 

"Alan has been working on a few things and the guys have been working on stuff," Salinas said. "So I think with where they're headed and what they're doing, we've got some great stuff coming our way. It was fast. It was very fast, to say the least. The impressive numbers are the 330 numbers. Those are the impressive numbers that we were really watching. 

Don’t say that Greg Anderson didn’t offer a fair warning. He just didn’t allude that he’d be the one the competition had better look out for. 

After running a 6.536 to take the provisional top spot, Anderson counseled, “It’s not safe, and we’re going to have to come out and give it all we got tomorrow to get those three points and try and keep that pole.”

Anderson upped the ante with a 6.519 in Saturday’s Q3 session at the NHRA Midwest Nationals outside of St. Louis, Mo.
