SALINAS IGNORES RUMORS AS HE FORGES AHEAD

Scrappers Racing Top Fuel owner-driver Mike Salinas has been paying no attention to the rumors that seem to be swirling around him at the moment.

One has him leaving the Top Fuel class. (He isn’t.)

The other has tuner Alan Johnson and the entire Brian Husen-led team heading to Kalitta Motorsports next season. (As far as Salinas knows, that’s not true.)

However, Salinas is going to be racing a Pro Mod car, but he doesn’t plan to ditch Top Fuel.

ENDERS HAS THE COMPLETE PACKAGE AS NO. 1 IN READING

In Indianapolis, a week ago, despite the fact she had won the prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals more time than any other professional female drag racer, defending Pro Stock series champion Erica Enders lamented her driving that day wasn't as good as it should have been.

Enders credited her team with giving her a racecar more than capable of winning.

Saturday, with her team delivering an equally good race car, Enders delivered the championship driving talent she has showcased many times, posting the best run of the weekend, a 6.524 elapsed time at 209.56 miles per hour. She gained five bonus points, just two shy of Greg Anderson. Anderson qualified No. 2 with a 6.530.

BRITTANY FORCE LOOKING TO LAUNCH COUNTDOWN RUN WITH POTENTIAL NINTH TOP QUALIFIER

The more things change in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, the more they stay the same.

Second-generation drag racer Brittany Force stands on the cusp of qualifying No. 1 at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals, and if her 3.666 second elapsed time, coupled with a Maple Grove track record 335.57 mile per hour pass holds, it will mark her ninth No. 1 qualifying performance this season.

EVERY POINT COUNTS AS HIGHT GRABS READING FUNNY CAR PROVISIONAL NO. 1

If anyone knows the value of every single point in a championship run, it’s Robert Hight. In 2009, Hight made the most improbable championship run, going from No. 10 in points to the top of the list by the end of the season. He did so by making every point count.

Friday, at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals in Maple Grove, Pa., Hight picked up three bonus points as he claimed the provisional No. 1 Funny car qualifying position, running 3.883 seconds at 330.39 miles per hour.

HOMETOWN SON ROCKS IT FRIDAY; KORETSKY ESTABLISHES PROVISIONAL NO. 1

Kenny’s boy is making his Dad pretty proud these days. And even better, the hometown folk didn’t have to hear Kenny Koretsky brag about how well his son is doing while on the NHRA Camping World Drag racing Series tour.

Kyle Koretsky showed them all at his hometown track, Maple Grove Raceway, in Reading, Pa., by nailing down the provisional Pro Stock No. 1 qualifying position with 6.547 elapsed time at 209.98 miles per hour.

SAMPEY NAILS HER MARK IN READING'S OPENING SESSION

Getting off to a good start in qualifying has not been iconic Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Angelle Sampey’s strong suit in 2021.

Alongside Ryan Oehler during Friday’s lone session at the Mopar Expresslane NHRA Nationals in Reading, Pa., the past NHRA champion hit her mark with a 6.761 elapsed time at 198.85 miles per hour.
