After qualifying in the top spot to start the day at the 14th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series driver Jose Gonzalez took home the win at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park.

The Norwalk event marked the fourth race of the 2021 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service season, and with today’s victory, Gonzalez currently sits second in the points standings.

There are races, and then there are spectacles.

And it is known far and wide that events at Summit Motorsports Park fall under the latter category.

In fact, you could say that the Bader family really likes blowing stuff up and setting things on fire.

Beginning with the father, Bill Bader Sr., and carrying over to the son, Bill Bader Jr., the Bader family has been putting on shows alongside their NHRA national events for nearly two decades.

 In more than 20 years atop a motorcycle, Kelly Clontz had never experienced an incident. Not once. Ever.

But, as they say, there is a first time for everything.

On Friday, Clontz experienced her first-ever major issue when she was thrown from her Suzuki at the top end of the racetrack following a pass of 7.281 seconds at 178.02 mph. The brakes locked up on her two-wheel ride and the bike tilted on its side, sending Clontz on a wild ride just shy of the sand trap.

At the conclusion of three qualifying sessions at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals David Barton and his Ray Barton Chevrolet COPO Camaro ran to the top of a tough Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown field. Twenty-seven race cars entered the event vying for 16 spots in tomorrow’s national event, the third race of the Factory Stock Showdown.  Barton on the strength of his 7.825 second run will go into race day as the No. 1 qualifier and he will face No. 16 Waldemar Rodriguez in the first round whose quickest run was 7.928 seconds.
 
Barton was solidly in the field going into the second day of qualifying and he took a shot in the second round, which did not pan out for the driver from Sinking Springs, Pennsylvania. In the final session Barton dialed his Camaro back and shot to the top of the field.

Greg Anderson has no complaints.

Not one.

Steve Johnson sent out a video Friday through social media, laughing that “What are you going to do?!” kind of laugh and showing his NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle and team and friends all huddled under his small pop-up canopy tent in the pits while the rains poured down on Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park near Norwalk, Ohio.

Johnson always makes the most of any situation, turns wild and seemingly unpleasant occurrences into a party or some sort of positive. So he did what he could during the rainstorm, then went out and staked himself Friday night to a provisional No. 11 position in the qualifying order for the Summit Equipment Nationals.

Small-tire racing star Daniel Pharris raced to victory in Penske/PRS Pro Boost presented by WS Construction for the first time in his career Saturday night at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) North vs. South Shootout presented by Line-X at Maryland International Raceway. Pharris defeated two-time Pro Nitrous world champion Jason Harris in a side-by-side, 3.71-second final round. 
 
Pharris was the only first-time winner in the pro classes, as Jim Halsey (Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous), Chris Powers (Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition), Wes Distefano ($hameless Racing Pro Outlaw 632), Chris Garner-Jones (Drag 965 Pro Nitrous Motorcycle) and Jesse Lambert (Drag 965 Pro Street) added to their PDRA trophy collections.
