CRUZ TAKES A WILD RIDE IN SATURDAY'S QUALIFYING

Cruz Pedregon knows drag racing can be a wild roller-coaster ride, full of sudden peaks and valleys. And he experienced that this week. The Snap-on Tools Dodge driver was walking just a little taller all week long after recording a perfect reaction time (.000 seconds) during eliminations at Charlotte. But he came back down to Earth a bit early Saturday, as he caught the guardwall just before the finish line and had his run disqualified, with impending rainstorms threatening to wipe out a second and final session.

SOUTHEAST GASSERS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES SST SHOOTOUT PRESENTED BY RAM CLUTCHES

Silver Sport Transmissions, in conjunction with RAM Clutches, will serve as the title sponsorship of the September 25th Knoxville Tennessee event, ‘The SST Shootout presented by RAM Clutches’.

Silver Sport Transmissions (Rockford, TN) was founded by Jack Silver in 2014. Silver had just purchased a 5-speed PerfectFit™ Kit for his 1986 Chevrolet El Camino “Choo Choo” when he heard about the previous owner’s ‘issues’. After investigating how a company with such great products ended up declaring bankruptcy, Silver found no fault in the staff or products. He gathered some investors and brought the popular products back to market and hired back all the old employees.

SOMETIMES STUPID *#@! HAPPENS -- BUT THAT’S RACING

All the forethought in the world can go into preparing any racing vehicle, but occasionally, cars and crew do the darndest things.

At the NHRA Southern Nationals weeks ago, that was evident in drag racing’s premier divisions.

In Top Fuel, Clay Millican was KO’d in the first round of eliminations because his car couldn’t make a proper burnout. More on the reason why in a sec. Over in Funny Car, on consecutive days, the Funny Car campaigned by Alexis DeJoria was “timed out” because her entry couldn’t complete the staging process. More on that, too.

RAIN HALTS NHRA ELIMINATIONS AT HOUSTON, ACTION SET TO RESUME MONDAY

Persistent rain at Baytown, Texas, has forced the NHRA to postpone the remainder of Sunday’s Mopar Express Lane Nationals at Houston Raceway Park until Monday.

The scheduled restart of the fifth race on the Camping World Drag Racing Series tour is 10 a.m. Monday.

STEVE TORRENCE HAS DONE IT ALL IN TOP FUEL – ALMOST

Although he has a resume that would be the envy of nearly everyone who ever has raced in the class, the native Texan from Kilgore never has won at Baytown.

With his No. 1 qualifying performance early Saturday for the NHRA Mopar Express Lane Spring Nationals before a nasty wave of thunderstorms shut down action at Houston Raceway Park, the Capco Contractors Dragster driver is one step closer.

GLENN MAKES FOR A FAST LEARNER, FOLLOWS UP FIRST CAREER WIN WITH FIRST NO. 1 SPOT

For some drivers starting out in a new class, it is all about baby steps.

Making your first race. Qualifying in the top half of the field. A round win or two.

TASCA BEATS THE RAIN TO TAKE TOP SPOT IN HOUSTON

During any given race weekend, a number of different factors can take hold and dominate the headlines.

Sometimes it is the drivers that take center stage. Sometimes it is the cars. On Saturday, it was the weather that owned the spotlight.

TASCA, S. TORRENCE AND GLENN GRAB NO. 1 SPOTS DURING RAIN-SHORTENED QUALIFYING AT HOUSTON

Funny Car points leader Bob Tasca III powered to the top spot right before the rain came, taking the No. 1 qualifying position in impressive fashion on Saturday during the 34th annual Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park.

Steve Torrence (Top Fuel) and Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock) also qualified No. 1 in their respective categories at the fifth race of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season. Pro Stock completed Saturday’s two qualifying sessions, but only one session of Top Fuel was completed due to weather. Funny Car was interrupted midway through its second qualifier on Saturday.

MILLICAN RELISHES IN IHRA HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

Mention the IHRA Hall of Fame and Clay Millican can't help but break out in his trademark smile.

He is, you see, the latest racer to be selected for membership in the hall. The news was announced last week.

And while his career accomplishments certainly justify his inclusion among IHRA's most elite, news of the selection feels a bit strange to the driver who won six consecutive Top Fuel titles and a sanctioning body-record 51 national events.
