DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR AUSTIN PROCK AS HE IS #2FAST2TASTY CHAMP AND TOP QUALIFIER

It was a celebration Saturday – again – for Funny Car racer Austin Prock.

Prock won his sixth consecutive Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge trophy, and seventh of the season, by defeating Ron Capps in the final round.

Prock, in Cornwell Tools/AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS for John Force Racing, clocked a 3.860-second elapsed time at 334.07 mph in the win. That pass also was good enough to vault Prock into the No. 1 qualifying spot at the Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minn.

JERRY TUCKER STEPS IN SPOTLIGHT, SNARES PRO STOCK NO. 1 QUALIFIER IN BRAINERD

There are plenty of stout drivers in the Elite Motorsports Pro Stock stable, led by five-time NHRA world champion Erica Enders.

On Saturday it was Jerry Tucker’s time to step into the spotlight.

Tucker clocked a 6.612-second elapsed time at 207.78 mph in Q3 and it was good enough for him to capture the No. 1 qualifying spot in his Camaro.

Tucker and Enders had identical elapsed times, but Tucker was awarded the No. 1 spot because he had a higher speed. Enders’ mph was 207.27.

PROCK, S. TORRENCE, TUCKER LEAD BRAINERD NO. 1 QUALIFIERS

Austin Prock got a two-for-one deal on Saturday at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. On the last Funny Car run of the day, he drove the John Force Racing Funny Car to 3.860 seconds at 334.07 mph to secure his ninth No. 1 qualifier of the season. He also defeated Ron Capps to win his seventh #2Fast2Tasty title of 2024.

Steve Torrence (Top Fuel) and Jerry Tucker (Pro Stock) also qualified No. 1 at the 13th of 20 races during the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.

Like he’s done several times in 2024, Prock will look for a clean sweep of the weekend on Sunday, opening eliminations against Jim Campbell.

PROCK WINS SEVENTH #2FAST2TASTY, BROWN AND ANDERSON PICK UP WINS

Austin Prock was as efficient as one could be on Saturday afternoon at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals as he secured his sixth consecutive victory in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge.

Antron Brown (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) also claimed wins in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge.

Prock’s win over Ron Capps represented his seventh victory in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge. He did so with a 3.860-second run at 334.07 mph, securing his ninth No. 1 of the season. This victory gives Prock the most wins in the history of the specialty race, which began last year.

BLAKE ALEXANDER SHINES IN BRAINERD AS HE TAKES FC PROVISIONAL NO. 1 SPOT

Blake Alexander gets lost in the headlines of the star-studded field of NHRA nitro Funny Car drivers.

But make no mistake, Alexander, in the Pronto Auto Service Center/Jim Head Mustang, is a very good driver. He is one of only 18 drivers to win a Top Fuel and Funny Car Wally.

Well, Alexander took the spotlight Friday evening at the Lucas Oil Nationals.

Alexander clocked a 3.874-second elapsed time at 331.61 mph to take the provisional No. 1 qualifying spot Brainerd (Minn.) International Raceway.

TOP FUEL STAR STEVE TORRENCE ROARS TO PROVISIONAL NO. 1 IN BRAINERD

S. TORRENCE, ALEXANDER, ANDERSON MAKE THEIR MARK IN DAY ONE BRAINERD QUALIFYING

Steve Torrence, a four-time Top Fuel world champion, secured the provisional No. 1 position on Friday at the 42nd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.

Joining Torrence atop their respective professional categories were Blake Alexander (Funny Car) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock).

Torrence edged out motorsports icon Tony Stewart in the second qualifying session, clocking a 3.688-second run at 335.32 mph in his Capco Contractors dragster.

FACTORY STOCK SHOWDOWN RUNS IN BRAINERD FOR THE FIRST TIME

There was a time when the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series stuck to the traditional and larger venues on the NHRA tour. This weekend continues the trend of the series stepping outside of the comfort zone.

The Factory Stock Showdown division, comprised of Chevrolet COPO Camaros, Ford Cobra Jets and Dodge Drag Paks, will make its debut at Brainerd International Raceway. One of those happy to see the series visit the Minnesota-based facility is point leader Stephen Bell.

“I have heard Brainerd is a lot of fun and great track,” said Bell, 2023 championship runner-up. “I have never raced there but from talking with guys, they say it reminds them of one of the old traditional racetracks. We don’t have any notes or data for when we get on the track on Friday for qualifying it will be a brand-new experience for us.”
