Jamie Stanton got the win light over Bob Kurgan, but there was an issue with the tree.  I have not heard if they will rerun them yet. Update: Stanton did get the win with what was an 8.07 to Kurgan's 8.22.

The pits are clearing out pretty fast with most of the racers eliminated are getting a jump on the drive home.  I heard there was a party in the pits last night and I was able to find some of those remnants.

Nick Scavo is checking the plugs and trying to cool the transmission for his bye run into the final.  He will face the Firebird of Mike Yedgarian in the Super Street finals.

Billy Glidden has made the finals in Pro Street when him and Chris Reni were unable to make full passes.  They are also running through normal maintance for the finals.

The Metz Performance crew was running through normal round maintance for the semi-final round.  Mike Rees laid down his quickest pass of the weekend to move on.

Second round of eliminations will be starting at 9 am this morning but nostalgia Pro Stock will be the only heads up class to run.  The rest of the heads up classes will start around noon.  Results will be posted for the second round of NPS when they are done.


SATURDAY ELIMNATIONS NOTEBOOK

NPS racer Thomas Luther was the lowest qualifier to move on to race on Sunday.  He was in the pits making suspention adjustments hoping to pick up some ET.  Thomas faces Pete Ricart in the second round.

In NMCA Pro Street, Bill Glidden ran a 6.56 to get by Vorderer and will face Jeff Lutz who ran a 6.585 in the second round.  This seems to be a very good match up with Glidden having lane choice.

In NMCA Super Street, Mike Yedgarian was the only car to make a good pass and he ran a 6.84, 215.  With the win he will get a bye to the semi-finals where he will face the winner of the Lutz vs Rees.

The number 1 qualifier in NMCA’s Nostalgia Pro Street class did not make it out of the first round.  Not sure what happened to David Beason but he will not be running on Sunday.  Number 2 qualifier Chuck Demory got the lucky break of the day.  Chuck hurt the trans at the hit of the throttle and the motor died, but he still got the win.  His competitor turned on the red light and Chuck will race Jankus in the second round.

In NMCA Pro Stock it will be an all Baskin affair.  Skip had a bye and Delaney took out Ben Mens.  Delaney ran a 8.60 in the 2010 Camaro, but gives up lane choice to Skip Baskin who ran a 8.55.

In NMRA Pure Stree, Jim St Charles has been on a tear winning the last two races and dipping in to the 9’s.  But Shawn Johnson strapped a .039 light on Jim and Shawn’s 10.54 was enough to hold off St Charles’s 10.49.  On the other side of the ladder Brandon Alsept really stepped it up.  He had only laid down a 13 second pass in qualifying, but maded the quickest pass all weekend with a 10.18 in the first round.

NMRA’s Hot Street had one upset in the first round when Max Gross had an .035 light.  Charlie Booze had an .084 light but it was not enough for his 8.69 to get past Max’s 8.74.

Most people had believed a nitrous car would not be competitive in the Drag Radial class due to the tire.  Well Steve Thompson has put that idea to rest.  In the last round of qualifying he laid down a very nice 8.13, but he was not done there.  Steve laid down the second fastest pass of the day and took the win with a 8.05.  He will face Adam Jude in the second round, who ran an 8.60 in the first round on a competition bye.

By the time I made a trip through the pits everyone pretty much had their cars for first round of eliminations.  Johnny MacDonald was the only exception and he was servicing his transmission.  it looked like he was just finishing up the work.

The final round of qualifying has just finished and those sheets will be posted as soon as we can get copies.  The first round of eliminations will not probably not start for another hour or two.

Rumor was that Chuck Samuels had purchased the Viscardi Boys Pro Street Mustang, but those are not true.  He is just here testing the car and trying to get it ready for ADRL competition.  Chuck did not feel the car would be ready for the ADRL race in Houston next weekend.

Brian Tuten is out with his newly converted Drag Radial car for the second race.  Brian's Mustang laid down a decent 8.25 last night but it only had a 1.46 sixty foot time.  Dave Zimmerman was over helping him make some chassis adjustments to get it off the line a little faster.

Steven Biggs was fighting a TPS issue in his Drag Radial Mustang and did not find the problem until right before second round yesterday.  It made such a difference that the car stood it up about 200' out and he had to get out of it.  They were moving weight around trying to keep the front end down.  They thought if they could keep it down they could have something for the top guys.

The Doug Roden and crew worked all night to get their head repaired.  If all things go well today they will be on the Pro Street ladder for final qualifying.  When I made it by their pit and they had just fired it up.

Word has it that Billy Glidden along with a few other racers pulled in over the night.  Glidden posted on YellowBullet that he was on his way with the 2010 ADRL Mustang.  Billy is here running Pro Street as a test session for next weekends Pro Street race.  Pretty amazing the car was on it's roof over 4th of July weekend and now it is back at the track

The weather today will be a little hotter and more humid then yesterday.  There should be a few more cars showing up today for the last qualifier.  The final qualifier starts around 9 am and the first round of eliminations is planned to start around 1 pm CST.  Word is we wil be close to 400 total cars for the weekend and that is comprable to last year.

Vinny Barber's SSO Mustang is all back together and ready to run.  They had an issue with the converter exploding and catching fire yesterday.  The damage was repairable and they are ready to get on the ladder this morning.

Chip Havemann made a gear change for the second round of qualifying yesterday trying to lay down a number.  The change did not work as expected so they were up late last night changing it back.

Last night ended with a firey crash ov Vincent Demieri's 68 Camaro, but I am happy to report he is fine and doing well.

You have seen Jason Lee's name on the NMRA Drag Radial and NMCA Extreeme Street qualifying sheets.  Jason is in contention for the for the points in both classes so Chris Singleton offered up his Extreeme Street car so Jason could compete in both classes.

FRIDAY EVENING NOTEBOOK

One of the Roush Mod Motor race cars broke a timing chain during test and tune. Looks like they got the motor changed in the propane powered race car for the second round of qualifying.

CLEMENTS ABSENT - In EFI Renegade Alton Clements car is here but he is not.  He had some things come up and will not be driving the rest of the year.  So they brought in George Seeger to drive the car this weekend.  In test and tune George skated close to the wall but did a good job off of it.

Mike Murrilo laid down the only full pass in Pro Outlaw 10.5 with a 6.8 pass.

Doug Roden broke his blower belt during his burnout and was unable to make a pass I would expect then to be back up for round number two. Just got an update that they hurt the head and are done for the weekend.

FRIDAY EARLY NOTEBOOK

Tony Williams had one of the coolest t-shirt sales displays I have seen. It looks like they welded used connecting rods, pistons and a bent wheel up and put a shirt on it.

Chris Tuten has never had any luck on the way to Joliet or at the track here. They were please to report they had no issues on the way here, but they have been busy since arriving. Chris has changed the converter and the camshaft in the car here in the pits al in hopes of building some boost at the line. Tuten made a 7.50 @ 190 pass in test and tune and his first qualifying pass was a 7.57, 190. That puts him forth behind Johnny Mac with a 7.38 and Sam Vincent with a 7.41.

Jim Robbins Super Street Camaro made a nice 6.81 pass during the test and tune. They had the transmission out and changing the gears hoping to get down the track a little quicker.

Vinny Barber's Super Street Outlaw Mustang spent a lot of time on the converter when staging. The results were not so good with the converter exploding and catching fire. The were in the pits checking out how bad the damage was.

Sam Vincent is here in his nitrous power fox body coupe racing in Super Street Outlaw class. Most racers feel with the air and temp here this weekend the nitrous cars will have an advantage. Sam laid down a 7.40 on his test heat with 140 degree track temps.

The Baskin team is here with their new Pro Stock 2010 Camaro. A lot of people did not car for the car in the first photos posted but I have to say it is pretty impressive in person. I expect it to lay down some good numbers in qualifying.

GOOD MORNING - We are here in sunny and hot Joliet for the 5th Annual NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl race.  They are currently finishing up the last few cars of test and tune.  First round of qualifying will start at 3 pm CST and will be followed by the second round.  Word is we will be running until at least 9pm tonight to get both rounds.  After seeing a couple of cars down the track it appears to be in great shape.  I am getting read to head to the pits to check on some of the new cars here Like the Sullivan Pro Street Stratus and updated/changed rides like Bob Curren's Extreme Street car.  Be sure to check back often and also check out Aeromotive for all your fuel system needs.  They are providing the coverage of the race this weekend.
