THE 6.90 MEMO

It’s the memo sent to the manufacturers that no one in the NHRA’s heirarchy cares to discuss, but has been passed on from the companies to the teams. The infamous and still rumored memo was confirmed by a handful of leading Pro Stock Motorcycle teams and its intent is aimed at limiting performances to 6.90s or slower. However, a source close to the situation says the intent of the “memo” was not to limit performance but to keep one combination in check.

Currently, there are three competitive engine combinations in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle. Reportedly, Suzuki is close to releasing a new engine combination that has become a source of concern for the NHRA’s tech department. The “memo” is said to have underlying tones that if the new Suzuki combination comes out with a distinctive advantage, weight will be the least likely means of adjusting parity.

In other words, if you run quicker than a 6.90, the ramifications could be more than the standard breakout procedure applied to bracket racing.
