BOYCOTT TALK AGAIN?

At least three prominent teams have agreed to combat the lack of television time afforded their teams as well as other key issues such as purse structures by simply not showing up for the the races in 2008, a source tells Torco's CompetitionPlus.com. While Evan Knoll's sponsored and team cars appear to be at the head of the pack, a source close to the situation tells us that he's got company in the form of several nitro teams as well as at least one prominent Pro Stock team.

This kind of situation comes at a bad time for drag racing when several of the leading teams have lost sponsorships. From what we are hearing, this movement comes with the blessings of the major sponsors for these teams.

With the new NHRA playoff format, missing the opening events in Pomona and/or Phoenix will not be as devastating to championship hopes as it once proved to be.

Drag racing old timers will recall that in 1981, in a protest of purse structures, the entire Funny Car division boycotted the 1981 NHRA Cajun Nationals in Baton Rouge, La. They got a raise before the next event.
