RUMOR MILL - THE ALMOST REBELLION IN THE PITS

The incident could have had a serious impact on the sport. But, nothing came of it. There was some serious saber rattling in the weeks leading into the 60th anniversary NHRA Gatornationals when reportedly the entire nitro contingent threatened to sit out the Q-1 session or more if the astronomical rate hikes for nitromethane were not walked back to a reasonable price increase. We are told in the days before the event, if not for the tireless efforts of PRO, working with officials at the NHRA, and the series' official fuel supplier, a compromise was brokered to avert the show of force, which was said to be unanimous in the pits to take a stand. If you recall, this is not the first time there was a significant price increase in nitromethane which caused the racers to push back. It usually comes along at least once a decade.
