EDWARDS DOMINATES 2009, 2010 UNCERTAIN

Many Pro Stock drivers agree that the landscape of NHRA Pro Stock will be different in 2010, how much it differs from this season DSB_3940remains to be seen.

At least four of the teams qualified at this weekend’s NHRA Midsouth Nationals are uncertain about their future in 2010. Mike Edwards is one of them.

“We’re like many of the teams out here, just up in the air,” said Edwards, the current NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock point leader. “Funding is everything for us. We’re looking but we don’t have enough to race for next year.”

Edwards said he will continue to operate his engine rental program in 2010 and if his commitments expand beyond current customer Ron Krisher, he’ll definitely park his race car to tend to his customers.

“If we don’t find enough money, we’ll park the car and try to make a living renting engines,” said Edwards. “If it hadn’t have been for Ron Krisher coming aboard with us we might not have been able to race this year.”

If he does park his team next season, Edwards believes his engines will continue to possess the same aggressive nature.

“Our engine program is moving forward, no matter whether we race or not,” Edwards said. “If we can’t race and someone wants the opportunity to race with us, we can work something out for them.”

STUMBLE ON DAY TWO – The second day of qualifications at the NHRA Midsouth Nationals were not as prosperous as the first for Edwards. The combination of a few things that didn’t work out and a determined Greg Anderson, provided only two bonus points after clean sweeping Friday’s qualifying.

He retained his No. 1 spot and will race newcomer Dave River in the first round of eliminations.

“We changed some things on the car and felt like it was trying to roll on me,” Edwards said. “I tried to catch it and just didn’t get it in time.”
