AHRA TAKES OVER FORMER RED RIVER RACEWAY; PROMISES MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS

The revived American Hot Rod Association fired a major shot towards its future existence by announcing today that it has entered into a multi-year agreement, to take over all operations of Thunder Road Raceway Park. The race facility, located outside of Shreveport, La., was formerly known as Red River Raceway.

“This will be the mother ship of re-establishing the AHRA in the South; once known as strong AHRA country for many decades” said Troy Moe, Chief Executive Officer of AHRA.

Moe said AHRA will be redesigning the Sportsman programs as well as hosting multiple major spectator events at the facility. AHRA class rules will be posted on its website the week of December 13, 2009.

“We look forward to developing our Sportsmen friendly programs by sanctioning additional tracks in the Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma markets” added Moe.

Moe confirmed that the AHRA will soon announce a Reunion Tour date for the facility.

“We are extremely excited to have Thunder Road on board in this capacity. This long term agreement will allow us to develop a strong relationship with the sportsmen racers, which is one of the primary objectives of our company.”

The reincarnated organization announced a ten-race AHRA reunion tour in October but was met with resistance by the NHRA, who contended the group’s intention to sanction tracks prevented their events from being contested on tracks sanctioned by the NHRA. The AHRA Reunion Tour event slated for No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La, was cancelled.

Reportedly, the AHRA has planned a series of major announcements this week.

Last week the AHRA announced sanctioning agreements with Quaker City Raceway in Salem, Ohio as well as Race City in Calgary, Alberta.
