PMRA RETURNS TO SANAIR

After a successful inaugural visit last year, The Pro Modified Racing Association will be heading back to the fabled Quebec dragstrip in 2007.

The Second Annual Eaton PMRA Challenge Presented by Eaton’s electrical business, manufacturers of Cutler-Hammer and Powerware brand products, will be held Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Sanair, just south of Montreal.

“We’re pleased the PMRA and Eaton are returning to Sanair,” said Sanair Track Owner and General Manager Jacques Guertin. “Our fans enjoyed the event and it was a terrific success last year. The PMRA teams put on a great show, and their return will be one of the highlights of racing at Sanair.”

Regular PMRA competitors Joe Lilienthal and Carl Spiering met in the final at Sanair. Lilienthal, of Kenmore, NY, and 2005 PMRA Champion, met with Spiering of Jordan Station, ON, who qualified number one. However, the skies opened up before the final could be run, and the two were declared co-winners.

The Sanair stop will be one of several for the PMRA in 2007, which will be entering into its third season with Pro Modified teams from Ontario and the states of New York and Michigan. The event will also be one of the highlights for Eaton Corporation’s commitment towards presenting a great show for its customers.

“Our staff, distributors and customers are extremely excited to hear of our return to Quebec with the PMRA and the return of Pro Modified racing to Sanair,” explained Paul Tlustos, Marketing Communications Manager for Eaton’s electrical business (Canadian Operations). “Quebec is an extremely important part of Eaton’s marketing efforts and this is a terrific way for us to reward customers loyal to the Cutler-Hammer and Powerware brands. It is also an extremely exciting way to introduce those not familiar with Eaton products to our business. Eaton is pleased to continue its support of the PMRA and bring the excitement of Pro Modified racing to the terrific drag racing fans in Quebec.”

PMRA Director of Operations Bruce F. Mehlenbacher is very excited with the Sanair announcement, adding that the PMRA will continue to grow and develop. “Our PMRA drag racing series 2007 schedule is starting to come together very quickly and eastern Canada is a very important part of our series plans,” said Mehlenbacher. “Eaton’s electrical business has made it possible for the PMRA to return to Sanair. Our plan is to confirm our Canadian and New York state dates and to announce a couple of new dates in the United States.”

The PMRA and its member teams traveled to several new drag strips in 2006, including Sanair in Quebec, and the western Ontario tracks of St. Thomas Dragway and the Grand Bend Motorplex. The tour was a great success for the series, which enjoyed strong fan popularity.

Negotiations are underway to return to these tracks, along with Toronto Motorsports Park and Lancaster Raceway Park and several other venues to present some of the best in Pro Modified racing for 2007.
