While his main focus remains the pursuit of the 2007 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock
championship, Jeg Coughlin will also remain active in NHRA’s sportsman classes
when the new season opens at the Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., Feb. 8-11.
In addition to his full-time ride in the Slammers Ultimate Milk/Jegs.com Pro
Stock Cobalt, the three-time NHRA World Champion will also be racing a JEGS.com
Chevy Cavalier in Super Stock.
“I'm really looking forward to driving a second car in Pomona,” said
Coughlin. “Last year, I had the opportunity to do a lot of sportsman racing in a
number of different cars and I really enjoyed it. I made over 500 runs which is
obviously many more than I would have made if I was just racing in Pro Stock. I
have always believed that there is no substitute for seat time and I try to
treat every runs as a learning experience, no matter what I'm racing so I think
that racing in Super Stock will be beneficial for me as a driver. It should also
be a lot of fun.

In Pomona and select other national events during the 2007 season, Coughlin
will be racing the same Chevy Cavalier that his brother, John raced the past few
years. Jeg has previously had success in his brother’s car, driving it to a win
at the 2003 NHRA event in Madison, Ill.
“I really enjoy Super Stock racing because the class is filled with great
drivers and it is very competitive,” Coughlin said. “This car is also one of the
faster cars in Super Stock which makes it a lot of fun to drive.”
Of Coughlin’s 47 career NHRA national event titles, 34 have come behind the
wheel of a Pro Stock car and the rest have come in various sportsman
eliminations including seven in Super Stock. Coughlin’s most recent triumph came
at the 2006 JEGS.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals in Belle Rose, La., where he
claimed the Top Dragster title.
Racing in two classes will also give Coughlin the opportunity to join the
exclusive club of racers who have won two titles at the same event. Coughlin has
come close on two occasions. At the 1998 Columbus racer, he won the Pro Stock
title and was runner-up in Super Stock. Two years earlier in Columbus, he won
the Super Stock title and was runner-up in Super Gas. Currently, there are just
eight drivers to win two titles at the same national event.
