WORLD FOOTBRAKE CHALLENGE X – SATURDAY RESULTS

Chris Moren

With the postponement of Friday’s $10K race due to rain, fourth round racers were up bright and early with the continuation of eliminations beginning at 8:00 sharp. The weather was dramatically different with a number of red-lights and runs under the dial, but 29 racers handled it well enough to make it to the next round.

In between elimination rounds of the $10K Friday race, competitors received a single time run for Saturday’s $20K race. An ambitious day is ahead as three races will need to be completed in addition to the Racer Appreciation Barbeque.

For the seventh round with eight cars left, Kevin Pollard was still left with two entries and will be joining Bug McCarty, Lee Zane, Adam Davis, Bob Mullaney, Darryl Paul and Chris Moren. In that round, Davis defeated Pollard in his first entry, Paul over Mullaney, Moren over McCarty and finally Zane ended Pollard’s hopes to advance.

In the semifinals, after a .002 reaction time in the quarters, Zane used another stellar .007 to defeat Paul. The other half involved Moren over Davis in a double break-out affair.

Lucas Walker

For the final it was Lee Zane and Chris Moren and what a battle. Footbrake racing at its finest. One-thousandth of a second separated them at the starting line and the former NHRA world champion Zane ran out by .001 to hand the win to Moren.

“I have wanted to come back up that return road as the winner of one of these events for years,” said Moren. “This is unbelievable. I have to thank Jared Pennington and Steve Stites for putting on the best footbrake race in the world.”

As for Saturday’s $20K to win event, the quarterfinal round consisted of eight cars; TJ Jordan, Tommy Plott, Rodney Finchem, Nick Bowman, Josh James, Lucas Walker, David Saunders and Seth Phillips. Moving into the semifinals was Bowman, Walker, Phillips and Finchem.

For the semifinal round, Bowman ran under his dial to hand the win to Phillips and Walker got the best of Finchem with a .030 reaction time and .016 over his dial.

Gage Burch

In the final, Phillips turned on the red-light by -.009 moving Walker right to the winner’s circle.

And for the last race of the night, the WFC Gamblers, 17-year old Gage Burch attending his first “big” race, took the win when Donald Gertz lit the red-light.
