PHARRIS TAKES HOLESHOT WIN AT PSCA RAGE AT THE RIVER

Saturday night at Gateway Motorsports Park, DeWayne Mills earned the turbo boosted ET record in the Radial vs. The World class in his '68 Camaro with a lap of 3.799 seconds, .001 seconds quicker than the old record. In the finals against Daniel Pharris of Sikeston, Mo., Mills laid down a pass of 3.813 seconds against Pharris' 3.901.

And lost.

Pharris beat the new record holder with a reaction time that was nearly .1 seconds quicker and earned the Morrow Bros Ford Inc. Radial vs. The World title at the Premier Street Car Association's Rage at the River event. The race, held in conjunction with Fun Ford Weekend, saw two of the top small tire racers in the game come to the Gateway to the West and throw down the gauntlet on a near perfectly-prepared drag strip.

For his part, Pharris said he did what he needed to do to win in a car his crew expertly tuned to go quick and fast in the humid air of St. Louis.

"I did my job," he said in the Winner's Circle after his victory. "We put in (the car) what we knew it would run. We had data for that pass and had data for these conditions. It was up to each of us doing our job and I did mine just a little bit better than (Mills) did his. But hey, he's tough everywhere he goes and we try to be just as tough. People are definitely going to start hating when he and I pull into the (track), that's for sure."

Mills' daughter, Kallee, also had a stout weekend, earning runner-up honors in the Mickey Thompson 275 Radial class, falling to Bob Bales' lap of 4.571 seconds at 155.93 mph. The third and final PSCA class at Gateway was the MMR Outlaw 8.5 category won by Brian Edwards. His run of 4.736 seconds at 154.62 mph sent Jason Collins home with the runner-up trophy.

The next PSCA event at Gateway is the Anarchy at the Arch III Street Car Super Nationals Aug. 25-27.
