FUN IN THE SUN BRACKET RACE TO DELIVER IMPRESSIVE PURSE, COMPETITION

In a little more than a week, racers from all over the country will descend on Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida for the third running of the Fun In The Sun Bracket Race. With four separate races paying as much as $20,000 to the winner on Saturday, with $10,000 up for grabs by the winner in each of the three remaining races, it’ll be an exciting time for all attendees.

Contested on the eighth-mile, big buck bracket racing typically involves dragsters and the like with a heavy emphasis on electronics. Only recently though, door cars have been making headway when it comes to race wins, and the latest is an invitation for footbrake racers (no electronics) to come and join the party. It’s a concept that has become increasingly popular.

Footbrake racers compete separately from the “electronics” cars until there is a winner. That winner is then fed into the corresponding round with other electronics racers. As an example, should there be 32 footbrake racers it would mean the winner would have to have won five rounds of racing. He or she is then fed into the sixth round of the electronics cars, which by that round usually involves the splitting of the purse to a more favorable number by contestants.

Round money would follow the same pattern as the “electronic cars,” with third round losers receiving eligible to earn some money. While footbrake racers must adhere to “no electronics” for their eliminations, once they are fed into the main event, they have the option to install a delay box to allow them to be on a level playing field with the remaining competitors.

In addition to Lucas Oil and Drag Racing Edge magazine, S&W Race Cars has announced they will continue to be a big part of the event with awards for the Best Losing Package in selected rounds each day.
