ARP QUESTION OF THE WEEK RESULTS - THE RACING IS FINE, JUST DUMP ELECTRONICS IN SUPER CLASSES

The readers of CompetitionPlus.com have spoken, and the overwhelming majority of fans [53%] say the Super classes are fine to watch; but as long as the electronics are not part of the equation.

Coming in a distant second was those who said to leave it alone [18%], and a distant third was the option of making the indexes quicker [17%]. Impose a speed limit was the least vote-garnering suggestion.

When NHRA introduced Super Gas as a regular class in 1982, the goal was to implement bracket racing to the national event scene. Before this, the sportsman content was limited to class racing where the goal was pretty simple. Get your car to perform and not break out.

This was the goal for Super Gas, and later Super Comp and Super Street. As the competition was increased, electronics became part of the equation and what was once an all-out sprint to the finish line became a game of cat and mouse.

The readers long for the days when a manual transmission could compete amongst the automatics. Sadly, the days of the stick-shifting cars in the land of the .90 remain a thing of the past unless something changes.
