TRAGEDY STRIKES AT BRADENTON'S U.S. STREET NATIONALS

WFLA.com has confirmed a Bradenton Motorsports Park [BMP] employee died on Friday afternoon after being struck by a race car during the 2021 U.S. Street Nationals.

The incident happened when a race car reportedly experienced a hung throttle and struck Daniel Stone, 56, while traveling at a high rate of speed. The report confirmed Stone died at the scene. Officials canceled the rest of the day's competition.

The Manatee County Sheriff's department arrived on the scene at about 7:40 PM.

Ellen Eschenbacher, who is working with the event promoters, confirmed the race would continue on Saturday, albeit with heavy hearts.

"First, please keep praying for the BMP staff, families, and for Paul Major," Eschenbacher wrote in a Facebook post. "Hug them, smile, please don't ask them what happened. They all have jobs to do today that require them to keep our lives safe and not explain over and over and over again what happened yesterday. None of them need that. Respect. That is our word of the day."

Since BMP is an NHRA sanctioned event, NHRA officials will be investigating the incident.

The team at CompetitionPlus.com offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and those at Bradenton Motorsports Park.
