GLENN MAKES FOR A FAST LEARNER, FOLLOWS UP FIRST CAREER WIN WITH FIRST NO. 1 SPOT

For some drivers starting out in a new class, it is all about baby steps.

Making your first race. Qualifying in the top half of the field. A round win or two.

And then there is Dallas Glenn.

For the Pro Stock rookie, those career firsts are coming fast and furious. Just two months after his debut in the class, Glenn recorded his first win one week ago in Charlotte. Now, the longtime KB Racing crew member-turned-driver is getting it done on Saturday as well.

Glenn drove his Rad Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro to his first career No. 1 qualifier Saturday in a solid 1-2-3 effort from the KB Racing trio as Glenn will start from the top of the heap for the first time at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway.

“It really shows how good this car is running right now,” Glenn said. “Greg (Anderson) gave me a little bit of room to squeak in there and thankfully I didn’t screw anything up and took advantage of it.”

Glenn’s previous best qualifying effort was a ninth place spot on the grid at Atlanta earlier this month. On Saturday, Glenn posted a career-best 6.549-second effort in his KB powered hot rod at 210.01 mph to edge team patriarch Greg Anderson. Anderson crossed the stripe second with an identical 6.549-second lap, losing the edge on speed with a 208.97 mph effort. Kyle Koretsky slotted in just behind the duo in third with a 6.552 at 208.68 mph.

All three drivers locked in their place on the grid in the first round of qualifying on Saturday. The Pro Stock category was the only class to secure a second round of qualifying after rain overtook the facility, but none of the top drivers were able to improve on their times and Glenn was able to hold on despite a slew of 6.5-second runs in Q2.

“Having these weather races, they always make you worry a little bit,” Glenn said. “If you only make one run, one little mistake can cost you the whole race and you might not even qualify. Thankfully, we were able to place our KB cars one, two, three, so I don’t think you could ask for anything better than that.”

Hometown favorite Erica Enders qualified her Elite Camaro in fourth with a 6.554 at 210.14 mph, while Matt Hartford rounded out the top five with a 6.566 at 210.41 mph. Four drivers were sent packing as they failed to make the 16-car field.

While the season is still young, Glenn is already feeling more confident behind the wheel. He just never could have imagined how quickly these winning moments would come his way.

“I feel really comfortable in the car. I think the biggest thing is week to week. I feel like I can get right back in the car and pick up right where I left off,” Glenn said. “Between Gainesville and Vegas there was that big break and that first run back I felt like I was making all kinds of mistakes shaking the rust off. I don’t feel like that is there anymore. As I get more experience I know what to do and I know how to recover from it without making any mistakes.”

Of course success in a new class, especially one as competitive as Pro Stock, is always easier when you have a team as experienced as his guiding the car and helping in the pits.

“The amount of experience in this pit is astronomical,” Glenn said. “I don’t think there is any other pit out here that has as much experience with Ron Downing and Dave Connolly and Greg Anderson and Jason Line in this pit. You can’t ask for any better teachers than them.”

Glenn will face Cristian Cuadra in round one on Sunday as he looks for back-to-back wins just five races into his NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series career.
