HANKINSON CONFIRMS RUMOR

In 2007, Craig Hankinson was a candidate for NHRA rookie driver of the year. This season, he'll be tuning a potential one.

Torco's CompetitionPlus.com confirmed today that Hankinson will serve as crew chief for former nitro racer turned Pro Stock driver Johnny Gray. Gray will drive a Dodge Stratus utilizing Larry Morgan horsepower.

Hankinson confirmed that he will put his driving career on hold.

Hankinson confirmed that he will put his driving career on hold.

"I'll be test driving from time to time," Hankinson said. "I guess it's back to crew chief for me, but that's not a bad thing. I really have a lot of confidence in this team that we are going to be competitive. I think we are going to shoot for the top eight right off of the bat. We have good power and Johnny is a good driver."
 
The lure of driving is something that Hankinson finds attractive, but he's content being outside of the car. He had no regrets walking away from the Boscoe team fielded by Rod Perry.
 
"This is a busines deal," Hankinson said. "We did the best we could with the power we had. But for now, I'm concentrating on making Johnny Gray go quick and fast. Test driving will be plenty for me."
