KIRK WILLIAMS, TIM CULLINAN, AND WAYNE HOFMANN NAB FUNNY CAR CHAOS WINS IN EDDYVILLE

Can anybody stop Kirk Williams?

Kirk Williams, the winner of the last three points-paying Funny Car Chaos events in 'A' Field, continued his onslaught of the competition this past weekend in Eddyville, Iowa capturing his fourth win of the season and fourth in a row. Williams's domination on the field has allowed him to build a nearly insurmountable point lead on the rest of the competition with just three races left to go in the season.

Tim Cullinan joined Williams in the winner's circle in Eddyville by taking home the honors in 'B' Field along with Wayne Hofmann, son of Nitro Funny Car legend Al Hofmann, capturing the win in 'C' Field competition.

Over thirty Funny Cars came to play this past weekend in Eddyville, Iowa, for the sixth points stop on the 2022 Funny Car Chaos season at Eddyville Raceway. Once again, Kirk Williams ran roughshod over the entire field just like he's done so far throughout the 2022 season. Winner of the last three points-paying races, Williams would not miss a beat at this past weekend's race in Eddyville, Iowa. Williams qualified his Williams Brothers Racing Top Alcohol Funny Car Pontiac Firebird in the number one position with a stellar eighth-mile-3.715 elapsed time, a full hundredth on the field.

Williams backed up his qualifying time with another 3.70 in round one on race day, running an exceptional 3.723 at 205 miles per hour to defeat Smiley Cordero, who turned on the redlight.

Lightning would strike twice in the semi-finals when Williams's opponent would turn on the redlight for the second consecutive round in a row. This time it was Mike Newkirk who would fall victim, automatically handing Williams a free trip into another final round. But the highlight of the round was Williams's performance on the racetrack, as he went quicker in the semi-finals, running low elapsed time of the event at 3.703 at 206 miles per hour.

Jeff Cameron, who got by Tom Furches in round one and Jim Chase in the semi-finals, looked to pull off the upset against Williams in the final round. However, it would be to avail as Williams would get the starting line advantage over Cameron, and that would be all she wrote. Williams would lay down another 3.70 in the final round, this time a 3.713 at 205 miles per hour to Cameron's 4.772 at 105 miles per hour to pick up his fourth consecutive 'A' Field win in a row.

"You know, right now we are living the good life," Williams said. "The car was deadly consistent, and the crew did a wonderful job, and the track was amazing, and everything just came together, and this was the result of it."

Williams leaves Eddyville with a commanding fifty-four-point lead over his next closest pursuers, Tom Furches and Jeff Cameron, tied for second with just three races left to go in the season.

For Tim Cullinan, a win in 'B' Field competition at Eddyville Raceway was never in the cards. Cullinan, who usually sports the "Irish Car Bomb" Front motored Top Fuel Dragster, brought out a brand new spanking second generation Camaro bodied Funny Car to race this past weekend at Funny Car Chaos.

With no runs on the car coming into the event, Cullinan qualified in the last spot in 'B' Field competition. In round one, Cullinan nearly avoided a trip into the corn fields at the end of the racetrack when one of his parachutes failed to deploy in his round one holeshot victory over Chuck Loftin, running a 4.329 at 159 miles per hour to Loftin's 3.875 at 161 miles per hour.

In the semi-finals, Cullinan got around Steve Timoszyk in the "Detroit Tiger" by bettering his first round time with a 4.215 at 164 miles per hour to Timoszyk struggling 6.031 at 76 miles per hour.

Cullinan would go head to head with Chris Schneider in the 'B' Field competition finale. In one of the best drag races of the day, Cullinan barely pulled out a win in the final round, holding off Schneider with his best run of the weekend at 4.123 at 174 miles per hour to Schneider's 4.171 at 173 miles per hour.

"Anything can happen, I guess, at a Chaos race," Cullinan said. "It was a very close final. It was a twelve to seventeen, and we put on a good show for the fans. We got five runs on the car, and they were all here this weekend at a Chaos race."

Remember the name Al Hofmann? Yeah, that's right, big show Nitro Funny Car driver Al Hofmann. Well, his son Wayne Hofmann, who was racing in competition this past weekend, paid tribute to his late great-father, wheeling the "China Syndrome" Dodge Omni Funny Car in Eddyville, a car his legendary father drove once upon a time. But it gets even better. The younger Hofmann would go on to grab top honors in 'C' Field competition at Eddyville Raceway in the "China Syndrome" and at a track where his dad used to match race back in the day.

Hofmann, who hails from the great state of Connecticut, would make the trip down Eddyville for the Funny Car Chaos event and make the most of it. In the opening round, Hofmann got by Daniel Butherus with a 4.522 at 153 miles per hour to Butherus's struggling 6.928 at 54 miles per hour before taking down Justin Herbst with a lighting quick .006 reaction time and running a 4.509 at 154 mph to Herbst 4.597 at 153 miles per hour to advance into the final round.

In the final round, Hofmann would take on Monty Stotz, and once again, the son of the legendary Funny Car driver would come out on top, making his best run of the weekend at 4.435 seconds at over 157 miles per hour to Stotz 4.602 at 139 miles per hour to secure the win in 'C' Field.

"What a great deal, this whole Chaos deal is awesome," Hofmann said. "We struggled every qualifying run; we blew the burst panel out of it, but we got it figured out, and here we are in the winner's circle. We went rounds and saved the best for last, the perfect way to end it."

Last but not least, Mike Tabacco in the "Pandemic" Funny Car from Mooresville, North Carolina, would take home the win in the 'D' Field shootout.
