NHRA PRO MODIFIED GETS THE BIG SHOW TREATMENT ON TELEVISION

The movers and shakers of Pro Modified, since the class launched in 1990, have envisioned taking the volatile doorslammer division to the next level. The next level appears to be here now.

The FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, presented by Type A Motorsports, will now be part of the live broadcast of both FS1 and FOX for all ten of its events. The driving force behind this groundbreaking move was two-time NHRA Pro Modified champion Steve Jackson and Debbie O’Rourke of Finish Line Consultants.

“I’ve been to hundreds of racing events, and the number one question I get asked is, when will fans get to see Pro Mods on the main tv broadcast,” said Jackson. “We have listened to you (the fans) because we love you, and here it comes. We are excited to deliver Pro Mod on the big show!

“I am just a small part of a rock star group of folks as passionate and in love with Pro Modified as I am. There are a bunch of people that have sacrificed a lot to bring NHRA Pro Mod to the level it’s at now, and I am proud to work with some of the best in the business.”

The new programming, in addition to the existing 30-minute dedicated Pro Modified broadcast, will feature up to ten minutes on the Camping World Drag Racing Series broadcast. In 2022, NHRA on FOX experienced increased viewership numbers, including the biggest audience in NHRA history from the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. The show averaged more than 1.6 million viewers, with a peak of 2.8 million.

“The NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series continues to be a growing attraction at NHRA events and we’re thrilled the class will have its biggest platform yet to showcase the talented racers involved and the incredible racing that takes place,” said Brad Gerber, NHRA vice president and chief development officer. “It will also add another great aspect to our NHRA on FOX broadcasts, giving race fans a chance to see all the exciting action in the NHRA Pro Mod category on raceday.”

What NHRA Pro Modified fans could find most appealing are that three of the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, presented by Type A Motorsports, events will appear on the FOX broadcast network, with the other seven on the tape-delay FS1 presentation.

“The extremely exciting part of this is that the racing community really came together to work with NHRA to make this happen,” O’Rourke said. “We’ve been digging deep to understand how to take Pro Mod to the next level. And here we are, in collaboration with NHRA, we’ve managed to pull off this deal, and we are thrilled to deliver this to the fans.”
