TEAM OWNER FREEMAN GETS HIS WALLY IN MMPS

Earlier this season, Richard Freeman made laps in a Mountain Motor Pro Stock car and was critical, albeit in jest of his performance.

“Yeah, I’m still not worth a s***, but it’s OK,” Freeman said.

Freeman, who began his Pro Stock driving career in the large displacement Pro Stockers back in the IHRA days, apparently got better... a lot better. The owner of Elite Performance drove to the win at the season-opening Mountain Motor Pro Stock event during the Gerber Collision & Glass NHRA Route 66 Nationals presented by PEAK Performance, stopping John Montecalvo in the final round.

Freeman left the starting line first and stopped the timers with a 6.269, 225.79 pass to beat out Montecalvo’s 6.277, 225.07.

“This is a great way to kick off our season in mountain motor pro stock,” said Freeman. “This category is so exciting. As you can see from qualifying, the field is stacked. There’s going to be some intense competition, and I’m glad we got it started right. This team is just doing a fantastic job of putting things together and they are the reason we got the win today.”

The Mountain Motor Pro Stock competition brought a challenging atmosphere with a field separated from the pole to bump by .06 of a second.

For his win, Freeman scored wins over Johnny Pluchino and teammate Erica Enders before stopping Montecalvo.
