MOTORSPORTS MARKETING EXECUTIVE GETS FIRST-HAND DRAG RACING EXPERIENCE

Motorsports marketing executive Brian Bohlander, known for his brand-building expertise, has recently expanded his racing accomplishments by becoming a licensed NHRA driver. With more than three decades of racing experience and a vast knowledge of motorsports marketing, Bohlander has distinguished himself in the industry. As the Director of Marketing for Old World Industries and the Chair-Elect of SEMA’s Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council (MPMC), Bohlander has executed various successful marketing programs in global motorsports.

Unlike many motorsport executives, Bohlander has a unique perspective on both on-track and off-track aspects as a competitive driver. From kart racing to off-road buggies, he has participated in various racing disciplines. Recently, Bohlander became a licensed NHRA driver, adding to his ever-expanding list of racing accomplishments.

Reflecting on attending Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School, Bohlander emphasized the exceptional skill level of NHRA drivers.

“I’ve stood on the starting line and watched the best in the NHRA race, everything from Stock to Top Fuel,” Bohlander said. “The licensing experience really puts into perspective just how good all NHRA national level drivers are when races are won and lost by as little as a 0.001 of a second.”

Bohlander’s on-track achievements include victories in the WKA Manufactures Cup National Series, the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Thunder Roadster Series, and leading the team that won Class 5500 at the 2020 Mint 400. Furthermore, he is a certified instructor for the Motorsports Safety Foundation and has been leading NASA wheel-to-wheel road racing competition schools since 2016 in various regions.

Driven to add NHRA race wins to his impressive resume, Bohlander decided to enroll in the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School. After completing the two-day session at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, Bohlander earned a Super Comp license.

“Frank’s program was recommended by just about everyone I know in drag racing as the first step,” Bohlander said. “Frank is a master of his craft, both with the driving technique but also the mental aspects of racing.”

For Bohlander, completing the class served a dual purpose: gaining a deeper understanding of drag racers’ mindset and laying the groundwork to compete at the NHRA divisional or national level. Frank Hawley recognized Bohlander’s enthusiasm and ability to absorb information on various levels during the course.

“Working with Brian was a lot of fun because he brought a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm to the class,” Hawley said. We are seeing more e “executive level participants, but to have someone like Brian committed to the two-day competition class is unique.”

Throughout his career, Bohlander has collaborated with prominent professional drivers from all levels of racing, both professional and grassroots. His rich experiences on and off the track have given him unparalleled insights and a unique understanding that most business executives can only dream of.

Bohlander acknowledged the challenges of NHRA racing. His commitment to honing his skills as a competitive racer showcases his dedication to mastering every aspect of the motorsports world.

“This may be the most difficult form of motorsports I’ve attempted, as every step needs to be perfectly executed to get the win light,” Bohlander explained. “There’s no opportunity to make up for a mistake; it’s sudden death in eliminations, and I look forward to making more runs to perfect those skills.” He also highlighted that the experience has given him a new appreciation for the mental demands of switching between intense focus on driving and fulfilling various obligations at the track.”
