ERICA ENDERS CAPTURES HISTORICAL NHRA NATIONAL EVENT WIN IN DALLAS

History no longer has to wait for Erica Enders.

The Pro Stock superstar has now won the most national events by a woman in NHRA history at 47.

That became a fact when Enders took the coveted title at the Texas NHRA FallNationals at Dallas Sunday.

Enders clocked a 6.469-second time at 211.55 mph in the final round to beat Dallas Glenn’s 6.493, 210.40.

“It is pretty awesome because when I first started it seemed like such a far  away record,",said Enders about her historical accomplishment in an interview with CompetitionPlus.com on Sunday night. “I thought to myself, 'I don’t think I will race that long to catch Angelle [Sampey], and here we are and it is pretty crazy. On one hand, I’m just a racer, and on the other hand it is quite a substantial accomplishment.'”

Enders has won world championships in 2014-15, 2019-2020 and 2022. In the process, she has won 46 national events in Pro Stock. Add that to the Wally she won in Super Gas in 2004 in Houston and she broke the tie with Sampey. Sampey has earned all of her 46 national-event wins in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class.

“We didn’t have a really great start to the season, and even through the summer it was going terribly,” Enders said. “They brought [the record] to my attention after we won Bristol and Topeka. I was like ‘Wow, that is so crazy.’ But on the other side of it, I didn’t want to talk about it because I didn’t want to jinx it. When they started talking about Greg [Anderson’s] 100th victory [in Pro Stock], it felt like it took him a long time to get it, so I was like, 'I don’t want to talk about it. I just want it to happen.' It was really exciting to get it done.”

And Enders acknowledged doing it at this event at the Texas Motorplex made things extra special.

“What is so cool about this weekend is that Dallas was my 350th Pro Stock race,” Enders said. “That’s a cool round number, and I just had a birthday this week and then to come do this in my home state is way bad ass. It’s a Cinderella story, you know what I mean?”

This is Enders’ third victory this season as she also went to the winner’s circle in Bristol, Tenn., and Topeka, Kan.

More importantly for Enders is that she remained atop the points standings and stretched her lead over second-place Anderson to 85 points with two races left in the season – Las Vegas (Oct. 26-29) and Pomona, Calif. (Nov. 9-12).

Enders qualified No. 3 at 6.483 seconds, and then disposed of Eric Latino, Cristian Cuadra, Troy Coughlin Jr., and then Glenn on Sunday at the Texas Motorplex.

“Throughout qualifying and it is going to sound lame, we struggled a little bit,” Enders said. “We weren’t running near what we should be, and we just knew we had some left in it. Coming out [Sunday], we knew it was a huge points day and my guys nailed it. They nailed the car. They nailed the tune-up, everything. Again, when their backs are against the wall, they just perform so flawlessly, and they really brought it, and I was super proud.

“First round, we went [6].46 and second and third round we went 47s and then we went another 46 in the final. I think that speaks volumes for our team and our horsepower. I’m just excited to get it done. It was a huge points day.”

Although Enders is focused on world title No. 6, she knows nothing will come easy in Vegas or Pomona.

“It is so tough in Pro Stock, the competition is so tough,” Enders said. “It is so competitive, and it is so tight. I just want to keep my head down and go to work and keep all the distractions out. Pomona is points-and-a half, so a lot of things can change. We didn’t have a crazy lead this year like we did last year. We have really just had to go to work and dig deep.

“My mindset is put the blinders on and do what we do. If it is meant to be, hopefully we will be able to raise our sixth big trophy at the end of the year, but regardless we have made quite the comeback, it is kind of crazy.”

After a first-round loss to Aaron Stanfield in Chicago, the sixth race of the season, Enders was 14th in the points standings.

Enders is the all-time winningest Pro Stock driver – and Pro driver for that matter – at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with nine wins.
