BRACKET RACER WILLIAMS WINS FOR FALLEN FRIEND

Troy Williams, Jr. had to win a race for a fallen friend and it’s fitting he attained the feat at a track he’s experienced much success. He scored a Top Dragster win at the annual Lucas Oil Division 3 event at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio.
Last season, Williams left the Columbus with a pair of NHRA “Wally” trophies, as he was triumphant in both Super Comp and Top Dragster at the annual Lucas Oil Division Race Series at National Trails.

This one was special, though.

“I’ve been in a little bit of a slump lately, so this win feels good” admitted Williams. “Some events within the last week really put things into perspective though. The drag racing family lost one of its own last week when my good friend Jimmy ‘Cheeseburger’ Jones passed away unexpectedly. He was 37 years old. Although it’s trivial in the grand scheme of things, I want to dedicate this win to his memory--it’s not much, but it’s all I can do.”

Williams certainly raced inspired in Columbus, but the fact he repeatedly performs well at the facility has astounded him.

“I don’t have a good explanation for my success in Columbus,” said Williams. “I had never raced here before the divisional event last season--when I didn’t do anything but br acket race, National Trail wasn’t a stop on the tour. In the past, I’ve had great success at certain tracks: Piedmont Dragway, Gateway International, and Virginia Motorsports Park come to mind. I don’t guess there’s much rhyme or reason to it, some places you just feel comfortable. It’s great to win here especially, because it’s right down the road from JEGS. The JEGS team and the entire Coughlin family have supported my career for years, so it’s nice to be able to win in their backyard and in front of some of their associates.”
