HERNANDEZ THROWS DOWN THE GAUNTLET

It's all come down to the one race. The Texan versus the Canadian; Hernandez versus Pontieri. Three rounds of DSB_1021.JPGqualifying. Four rounds of eliminations. Twenty points between them, with the defending World Champion in the lead. It's a battle of epic proportion for the Jegs ProMod Challenge Crown, this weekend at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas.

"This one is for all the marbles, and Tony's going down first round, that's all there is to it," Josh Hernandez said. It's all come down to the one race. "This one is for all the marbles, and Tony's going down first round, that's all there is to it," Josh Hernandez said.

Hernandez has won three events this season and qualified No. 1 six times; Pontieri has yet to win but has made it to the money round three times and is looking to take the win and the mantle of World Champion from Hernandez.

"Because I'm number one and he's number two, we'll be paired in the first round of qualifying, and all I can say is that he'd better get used to seeing the rear end of my Team Rage '68 Camaro, because he's going to be looking at it a lot this weekend," Hernandez said.

"Seriously, the battle for the Crown is between us, but I know for a fact that there are 22 other cars out there that would nothing more than to put either of us on the trailer early and play the spoiler. This is an outright war. It's Jegs Pro Mod, and it's the very best. You can't get better drama and excitement than this.

"I have to say, Jim and Dave Oddy, Troy Critchley and the whole Team Rage crew have worked so hard to get us here, and all of our sponsors, who have put us at the very top, and we are all working to get one more race. We have to qualify better than Tony, and then keep him from getting a round win on us, and we've got the Crown.

"I can't stress it enough, everything counts. Every turn of the wrench, every ounce of Red Line Oil, every NGK spark plug – everything counts and it all has to work together seamlessly to get the prize – and that's what we expect to do. I'm incredibly excited and pumped to be back in Vegas to make this happen," Hernandez said.
