In 2008 the Cobra Jet celebrated Ford's return to NHRA stock racing, 40 years after the original Cobra Jet was produced. The Cobra Jet is a turn-key, NHRA legal Stock Eliminator race car, designed for the double-A class.  It features a 5.4L supercharged, 4-valve engine and 6-speed transmission.

At least four of the new Cobra Jet Mustangs will compete at the season’s opening 49th annual Kragen O’Reilly NHRA Winternationals, February 5-8, at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.
