The world’s quickest convertible will headline Motion Raceworks Sick Summer, featuring the fastest street-legal cars in America over five days of racing at four Midwest drag strips. Devin Vanderhoof of South Carolina owns the 1993 Ford Mustang, capable of speeds over 230 mph in just over six seconds.

Vanderhoof’s Mustang finished second overall at Sick Week 2025 and also claimed second place during Sick Summer 2023. Traveling from the Southeast to the Midwest, Vanderhoof and driver Josh Davis embrace the mission, finding joy at the event.

“The first year Sick Summer was held, I had more fun than I have had for a long time at a race event,” Vanderhoof said. “The cool part was the small towns and the people of the Midwest. We were at Great Lakes Dragaway at 9 a.m. on a weekday morning, and the track was at capacity—you don’t get that anywhere else.”

Vanderhoof recalls moments during Sick Summer that resonated with him. “There was a kid at a stop sign handing out water bottles to everybody. I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’”

Devin and Josh will be competing in one of the nation’s quickest street cars while their wives join them in the Summit Racing Equipment Sick Ward Presented by PEAK Performance. This VIP spectator experience allows fans to enjoy Motion Raceworks Sick Summer without racing.

Josh and I hyped this event so much that now both of our wives are coming,” Vanderhoof said, laughing. “They’ve rented a cool Jeep and have a whole list of places they want to visit along the way.”

Vanderhoof’s Mustang, the world’s quickest convertible, features a canvas soft top, leading to practical challenges. “We might just be the only ones dumb enough,” he joked. “We have to put a new top on it every year because it stretches so bad with the speed.”

Vanderhoof aims for overall honors at Motion Raceworks Sick Summer and believes he can improve his Sick Week average of 6.577 seconds. “We’ve tested at Street Car Bragging Rights, getting experience on hot tracks that will help us at Sick Summer,” he said.

Over 300 racers will compete at Motion Raceworks Sick Summer, which visits Byron Dragway, Great Lakes Dragaway, Cordova Dragway, and Tri-State Raceway. Discount online tickets and event information can be found at sickthemagazine.com.
