CPTV STORYTELLERS - MIKE DUNN TELLS "FREE AT LAST!"

Second-generation nitro superstar Mike Dunn hung up his driving a suit a long time ago, but remains close to his memories. The former Funny Car driver turned television analyst turned sanctioning body president smiles when he talks about the good old days of drag racing.

In this new episode of Storytellers, Dunn speaks of his first experiences out on the road as a driver of the Bear Town Shaker.

Dunn, who said the experience of going out on his own was priceless, had all the makings of a future legend with ambition, natural talent and a tendency to think outside of the box.

AN ENCORE: REMEMBERING THE GOOSE - MIKE DUNN INTERVIEWS TOM MCEWEN

The passing of Tom “the Mongoose” McEwen was a surprise and a shock to myself and I’m sure everybody else that new him well. Even though you know that it is inevitable, you always think that your heroes are never going to die. I know he was 81 and had some health issues in the past but I was lucky enough to interview him at the March Meet this year and like always, he had that quick wit and could remember things in his career that made the interview seem like it could have been done during his driving days. I never thought when I was doing the interview that it would be my last time talking with him, but I am so thankful that I had the opportunity. RIP Goose

VIDEO FLASHBACK: 1984 IHRA SPRING NATIONALS - BRISTOL, TENN.

Travel back to a time in drag racing when one of the richest paydays for Funny Car was reserved for the driver who could best navigate their race car down a strip which ran down the middle of two mountains.

LEGENDS: THE SERIES PREVIEW - THE LEGEND OF MARK OSWALD

Mark Oswald's career path has represented a gearhead who made it big in every sense of the word.

Oswald, who grew up around Cincinnati, Ohio, became smitten with the straight-line sport at a very young age, so much so that he and a childhood friend would often emulate race cars while climbing behind the wheel of the friend's older brother's parked car. He eventually talked his way into trips to the drag strip, long before he was old enough to drive. When no ride was available, he simply hitchhiked.

There was no denying Oswald his destiny in nitro.

Oswald's story is one of a young man who took advantage of the lessons afforded him by intelligent members of his racing community, who took the time to teach a future Hall of Famer how to survive in the racing industry. He learned from the best, and it shows in his myriad of accomplishments.

This is only a preview of a very enlightening full length episode which debuts on June 11, 2020, at 8 PM, EST.
