CLASSIC VIDEO - A GATHERING OF THE MONSTERS AT FONTANA DRAG CITY

Ah, the legendary Fontana Drag City, also known in some circles as Mickey Thompson International Dragway, wasn't considered one of the major drag strips in Southern California but was important enough to establish a role in drag racing's foundation.

The strip, which originated from the old abandoned Gilfillan Field, Played host to strong drag racing shows like the one featured in this classic film featuring the Mickey Thompson 200mph Club Meet. The video is appropriately named "The Gathering of Monsters" and featured the best of the best in Double-A Fuelers back in 1965.

Darrell Russell was destined for Top Fuel stardom Anyone could gauge his immense potential.

Almost before his career high gear, though, the sport was cruelly robbed of his certain greatness.

Handpicked to succeed driver/owner Joe Amato, then the winningest driver in NHRA Top Fuel history, Russell immediately proved to be the perfect choice. He won his debut as a Top Fuel competitor -- only the third driver ever to accomplish that feat -- and over the next 3 1/2 years, he charged to five more victories with 11 additional final-round appearances.

Travel back in time to 1971, to the season finale, the NHRA SuperNationals at Ontario Motor Speedway. The new Ontario Motor Speedway was a crown jewel amongst race tracks, and the competition the NHRA brought along was just as precious.

You'll see the early years of the Funny Cars, as well as the Pro Stockers with Dick Landy cameos.

This video truly takes you back to racing the way it used to be, nearly fifty years ago.

THANKSGIVING VIDEO TREAT - 1972 GREAT LAKES DRAGAWAY

This video features nitro action from Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI. There are some classic rides in here including the Funny Cars of Gene Snow, Fred Mandoline and Kelly Chadwick. The dragsters include Ma and Pa Hoover and other Midwestern regulars.

1965 - HURST DRAG RACING DOCUMENTARY FEATURING NHRA DRAG RACING

This video is a textbook 1960s drag racing documentary featuring everything good about the straight-line sport back in the day. It's educational and plays off of the mystique of drag racing vehicles.

The Hurst video features footage from the '65 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Spring Nationals in Bristol, Tenn., and U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. You'll see the dragsters, Super Stocks, and Factory Experimentals.

The documentary is chock full of legends, including Don Garlits, Don Prudhomme, Hurst Hemi Under Glass, Ohio George Montgomery, Bill Lawton and more.
