AMRC EXPANDS ITS OPERATION WITH A COMPOSITE SHOP

Andy McCoy Race Cars (AMRC), specializing in the fabrication of high-performance Pro Mod and Top Sportsman drag racing components from chassis to duster-body-availablecompetition-ready vehicles, has added to its lineup with a complete composite shop and the first order of business for the new division is to make AMRC’s proprietary 1970 Plymouth Duster body available.

“This is the next step in the evolution of our race shop,” Andy McCoy said. “We no longer just specialize in chassis building. We are continuing to add to our business with the aim of ultimately producing everything a serious racer would need from bumper to bumper.”

AMRC generated a buzz in the drag racing community with the debut last year of their patented Duster body and the team is currently putting the finishing touches on the fifth car they have built from the ground up with that design. The popularity of that car has led to the opening of the composite shop.

“So many people have come to us with an interest in that body style but were not in need of a complete car,” McCoy said. “We’re happy we will be able to start meeting the demand from those who already have a good chassis and want to complement it with a sleek body.”

The Duster body is in the process of being approved for the Australian market and AMRC products are currently available in Europe though a partnership with Henrik Pedersen’s All-In Racecars.

The carbon fiber body weighs 58 pounds and retails for $11,500, while the fiberglass version weighs in at 100 pounds and sells for $7,500. The current lead time for manufacture of a body is four weeks. AMRC also offers other carbon components for the body, including a pro stock style wing, floor boards, wheel extensions and a trunk kit. The composite shop also manufactures carbon seats, window NACA Ducts and much more.

More information is available at www.andymccoyracecars.com, where the new components will be added to the parts listing by the first of the New Year.

TREND QUICK SHIP PROGRAM: A NEW 24-HOUR SERVICE FOR CUSTOM PUSHRODS

Because pushrod lengths are not generally known until an engine build is almost complete, they are often the last components ordered—and often they are the trend_2components most urgently needed.

Now, Trend is introducing a new quick-ship program called QSP that aims to dispatch orders of custom pushrods within twenty-four hours. The service offers much convenience, providing any combination of machined tips or tapers on Trend’s range of pushrods.

Just select your pushrod length (6.000 inches to 12.000 inches); select the diameter (3/8, 7/16, ½, or 9/16 inch and wall thickness); select your end taper (standard 5/8 inch or 1-5/8 inch); select your overall taper (single taper or double taper); select a ball end or a radius cup end and you’ll probably have those Trend pushrods within 48 hours.

Trend’s Quick Tip on their heat treatment process: Trend brings their pushrods up to temperature then quenches them and then tempers them.  The duration of the heat treatment determines the amount of case depth. The quench, which can vary from room temperature to -100 degrees, determines the retained austenite or material properties in the components. To increase the hardness a cryogenics procedure is also applied during the quenching process. This operation can freeze the pushrods to as low as 300 degrees. Finally the pushrods are tempered and returned to the desired hardness.

DRAG RACING - THE WORLD'S FASTEST SPORT, NOW AVAILABLE

New drag racing book covers entire spectrum of the sport

112309It has been two years in the making, but Drag Racing - The World’s Fastest Sport is now available for fans of this popular form of auto racing.

112309The newly-released hardcover book encompasses all facets of drag racing, from a strong segment on the history of the sport to today’s top drivers in the NHRA and IHRA. There is a section on all car classes, from Stockers to Top Fuelers, a drag racing “101” primer which delves into the mechanics of the sport, and chapters devoted to women in the sport and legends of the sport.

The book is profusely illustrated with exciting and colorful photographs. The book also employs a bevy of illustrations of drag racing cars and other items related to the sport presented in a realistic fashion.

“This book has truly been a labor of love for me,” said Miller, who has written several other books on auto racing. “When I decided to attempt this book, I noticed there were many books on the sport available, but none to offer the scope that this book contains.

“While most drag racing books are about a personality, or a class of cars,” he continued, “this book covers the whole spectrum of the sport, so a novice would have a good understanding of drag racing after reading it.”

For Miller, who writes about motorsports for a daily newspaper, this is his latest racing book. His other motorsports works include three books on NASCAR, and a child’s book on auto racing.

NO MORE CHARGING 2-WAY RADIO FROM NW RADIO

IMG_28182WN3= 2 Way NiCad Not Needed is a radio system for your car that no longer requires a independent battery for the radio. No more unplugging the radio from the car harness, disconnecting the external antenna and removing the radio from the case to charge it. Every time the radio is removed you take the chance of forgetting to put the radio back in.  You save wear and tear on the connectors, on the cables and the radio and you move one charge closer to the life expectancy of the battery. If it is an old NiCad battery, you risk the chance of the battery not lasting through a single run even though the battery charger indicates a full charge . 2WN3 is a battery product replacement that allows you to wire the radio system directly into the cars electrical system  via the master battery switch or a independent  toggle switch. When the radio is initially installed it no longer has to be within reach of the crew member or the driver.  No need to turn it on and adjust the volume control each time. Set It and Forget I.

You can mount it anywhere in the car. With this product, once the electrical system is turned on, the radio powers up and the volume control will be exactly where you set it  the first time. No need to power up the car then power the radio and mess around adjusting the volume control. 2WN3  will work with any cars voltage requirement and pulls less than 1/10th amp hr. during a full run.
