Take a trip back to 1978, when the NHRA Summernationals lived up to its name in early July, at the legendary Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Take some time and watch this affiliate broadcast which features all the action of the incredible drag race and the accompanying commercials of the time


Let’s set the stage. Shirley Muldowney was the defending Top Fuel champion, but a young Jeb Allen was coming into his own. Don “The Snake” Prudhomme was on his way to another series championship in Funny Car, but on this weekend there was a mounting opposition to the Snake’s dominance. And who could have ever thought what would happen when Bob Glidden showed up with a Ford Fairmont.
