SCAG Racing will expand its Top Fuel presence in the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series for the 2026 season, announcing the formation of a second nitro team representing Bluebird Turf.
The new Top Fuel entry will be led by crew chief Glen Huszar and driven by Will Smith, strengthening SCAG Racing’s footprint in drag racing’s premier category.
The Bluebird Turf team will work in coordination with the SCAG Power Equipment Top Fuel operation led by Justin Ashley and crew chief Tommy DeLago, sharing data, technical knowledge, and operational resources.
With the addition, SCAG Racing will field four nitro cars across its professional program, underscoring its long-term commitment to Top Fuel competition.
Smith enters the 2026 season with added momentum after earning his first national event victory in 2025 while competing in IHRA Top Alcohol Dragster, a milestone that followed years of methodical development across multiple racing disciplines.
His progression to Top Fuel has been deliberate, built on experience rather than rapid advancement. Smith began racing in the NHRA Junior Drag Racing League and later worked for professional teams while pursuing a marketing degree at the University of Alabama, a decision he said was intended to create opportunities to drive.
“I chose a marketing path to help me get in the seat,” Smith said. “Fortunately, I made a career in this great sport so far on the marketing side.”
Smith also spent multiple seasons driving an A/Fuel dragster, logging more than 150 laps and using the class as preparation for Top Fuel. He has since competed in both Top Fuel and Fuel Funny Car.
“I can’t stress enough how valuable it has been to drive an A/Fuel car and use that as a training tool for Top Fuel,” Smith said.
That preparation led to Smith’s Top Fuel debut at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in 2022, where he gained experience at the sport’s highest level while working alongside three-time Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon.
Smith also honored the late Bill Mullins during that debut by running the No. 200, recognizing Mullins’ impact on Alabama drag racing.
The formation of the Bluebird Turf team provides Smith with a more structured Top Fuel opportunity heading into 2026, supported by an organization already established at the front of the category.
With SCAG Racing expanding its Top Fuel program, Smith now moves forward as part of a broader, long-term effort rather than a limited or one-off opportunity.
