Danny Byrd knows a lot about racing stick-shifted cars having raced with the NHRA since the early 1960s. The longtime Lucas Oil Sportsman racer class raced back in the day when class eliminations at Indy sometimes drew about 32 cars in the same classification battling it out for a chance to race in final eliminations. Byrd has longed for those days, and to fill the void he's found a home racing C/Gas with the Southeast Gassers Association.

The Funny Car fraternity was a tight-knit family back in the days, and legendary Funny Car pilot put the bond to the test back in the 1970s against a headstrong track manager at Napierville Dragway in Quebec. Segrini had encountered some problems in a previous event which put him behind the eight-ball making it to the next show. He barely arrived in time but was met with disdain by the track official who determined Segrini would get nothing for his effort.
