More gold today friom videographer Doug Gordon. This offering comes from the 1960s, and while we clamor for sound, this video is sight only. Some classic shots from the 60s, including a match race from the days when "funny cars" were really funny-looking cars. Also 1966 and 1969 Nationals action with Don Garlits, Wild Willy Borsch, and John Mulligan's fatal run.

CPTV VIDEO - TEN BRUTAL WHEELSTANDS

SEASON 2, LEGENDS: THE SERIES - THE LEGEND OF LARRY SUTTON

Larry Sutton is not the kind of legend credited with holding a prominent place in drag racing history like Don Garlits or Don Prudhomme. However, he was one of those important spokes in the wheel of drag racing’s early years.

Sutton was a special kind of person in those formative years and wielded a lot of power amongst drag racing’s supporting cast. Known for his trademark black stetson, Sutton probably had the most power in determining the west coast’s pivotal races but never let the power go to his head. He was a starters, and probably the most famous one next to the late Buster Couch. He was tough but a fair; a man’s man.

CPTV CHRISTMAS EVE TREAT - 1980 POPULAR HOT RODDING NATS

07_16_2011_martinTravel back to a time when Dragsters and Funny Cars did dry hops. Pro Stockers pulled the levers. This was a time when drag racing's video coverage was more about tape delay and syndication and ESPN was still in its infancy.

CompetitionPlus.tv, via Youtube.com, visits U.S. 131 Dragway [Martin, Mich.] for the Popular Hot Rodding Nationals during the 1980 season.

This event wasn't a national event on the NHRA Winston World Championsip Series. It was instead an NHRA Division 3 points race and a staple of the drag racing "must run" events. In this event, professional drivers gathered points towards the chamnpionhip. Ironically this event was staged on the same weekiend as the NHRA Molson Grandnational in Montreal, Quebec.

Many of the teams raced both events on this weekend.
