Established in 1955, Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove Wisconsin has a storied history, and the 2022 race reason will mark another milestone for the iconic track with the completion of its all new racing surface.
Work began at the completion of the 2021 season with the wall-to-wall demolition of the existing 40-plus-year-old race surface.

Overseen by Total Venue Concepts, the new racing surface features concrete from before the burnout box, to 200 feet beyond the starting line. From there, the transition to new asphalt goes to 100 feet beyond the finish line, and seamlessly meets up with the shutdown asphalt that was laid 2 years ago. With imperceptible transitions, TVC and local contractors A.W. Oakes and Payne & Dolan have provided racers with a safe, smooth surface.
In addition, the entire timing system has been rewired, with new beams and improved mounting to assure accuracy at every incremental.

Mountain Motor Pro Stock makes their 2022 NHRA Drag Racing Series debut at the NHRA Virginia Nationals this weekend with Grade A Energy Shot as the presenting sponsor of the event. The 825 cubic inch show stoppers run a limited series with the NHRA in the midst of their PDRA Xtreme Pro Stock season, and Virginia Motorsports Park is the first of four stops with the NHRA.

Ronnie Hobbs’ recent switch to a screw-blown, Wyo Motorsports-built engine is already paying dividends, as Hobbs drove it to multiple career-best passes on his way to victory at Tulsa. Tuned by Todd “King Tut” Tutterow, Hobbs and his “Texas Rattlesnake” ’17 GT350 Mustang qualified No. 15 before charging through eliminations to meet Daniel Pharris, the car’s former owner, in the final round. Hobbs posted a 3.645 to finish ahead of Pharris and his 3.668. 
 
“There's no words to express what it takes to be up against this level of competition and be successful,” said Hobbs, who defeated Stan Shelton, Tommy Cunningham, and Dustin Nesloney in prior rounds. “Everybody wants to win and there's no amount of money that can buy a win. It takes so much more than money. It takes luck and a lot of other things. We just wanted to compete and to compete at this level. The rest has to fall into place. Not only being able to compete, but actually pull off a win at really our first race with this new combination, it's amazing. Unfortunately, I probably wanted it a little too much and didn't have as much experience in the car as I needed for that .64.”

After a runner up finish due to an -.002 redlight last October in Charlotte, Michael Handras returned to ZMax Dragway two weeks ago determined to redeem himself and did just that in his debut race with new primary sponsor VP Racing Fuels and Lubricants.

The reigning Division One Super Gas Champion, who calls Brooklyn home, is fielding three cars this season in partnership with Duane Shields Racing. With a new hauler, new sponsors, and full-time crew member Jason Oteri joining the team, Handras’ win is the first National Event win in a career that spans more than 15 years.

Stellar Marine is proud to announce they will be awarding bonus money to the quickest elapsed time in Mountain Motor Pro Stock starting with this weekend’s NHRA Virginia Nationals in Dinwiddie, VA.  The program will be called the ‘Stellar Marine Pass for the Cash’ and will award $500 to the quickest elapsed time of the event whether that is in qualifying or eliminations.

Curt Steinbach, owner of Stellar Marine, was already heavily invested in the class prior to this announcement. He is the owner of a Jerry Haas-built 2022 Camaro that will be driven by Tommy Lee this season at PDRA and NHRA events that host Mountain Motor Pro Stock.  

The Fuel Tech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon is set to hold its first-ever shootout specialty race during the 2022 campaign, NHRA officials announced today.

The D-Wagon NHRA Pro Mod Shootout will take place on Friday and Saturday of the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway on Aug. 18-21, giving 16 standouts in the Fuel Tech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon the opportunity to win the category’s first specialty race and the $10,000 prize.

Four back-to-back winners and one first-timer visited victory lane May 7, when the South East Gassers Association visited Lassiter Mountain Dragway in Mt. Olive, AL.

Earning his first SEGA B/Gas victory was Ted McKee, while Leslie Horne, Tim Hall, Rick Varner and Doug Loudermilk backed up their wins from last month at North Carolina's Shadyside Dragway in A/Gas, C/Gas, Super Stock and H/Gas, respectively.

There was a familiar face competing in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C. recently.

It was veteran rider Hector Arana Jr. 

Arana Jr. qualified No. 10 in his season debut before finishing third in his first-round quad to eventual race champion Steve Johnson and Angie Smith on May 1. Arana Jr. clocked a 6.867-elapsed time at 198.03 mph in defeat. 

Despite the results, Arana Jr. was upbeat about his team’s performance. This after all was the first time Arana Jr. was competing since the NHRA FallNationals Oct. 10 in Dallas, when he lost in the finals.
