The promise of a record-breaking weekend of IHRA Pro-Am drag racing
fell victim to weather Friday as rain and an unfavorable weekend
forcecast forced Rockingham Dragway’s postponement of the
season-opening three-day points meet until the weekend of June 19-21.
“It was a tough decision and a tough way to start the season,” said
Rockingham owner Steve Earwood. “It’s a no win deal when you’re
dealing with weather but, in this economy, we felt like the worst case
scenario would be to ask everyone to sit around for three days hoping
for a miracle and then still send them home without turning a tire.
“By making a decision this early, before most of our racers have
started their travel, maybe we can save them the gas, motel and meal
money for another time.”
