CORY MAC REVISITS FORMER PASSION

Long before Cory McClenathan discovered his passion for speed and began driving
the 300-plus-mph FRAM Top Fuel dragster for Don Schumacher Racing in the NHRA
POWERade Drag Racing Series, his attention was drawn to the baseball diamond,
where, as a child, he spent much of his time enjoying one of this nation's
favorite pastimes.

He will get a chance to play the game he loved as a
Little Leaguer next Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the NHRA Softball Classic at
Arrowhead Credit Union Park in San Bernardino, Calif., prior to the weekend’s
NHRA Finals, with all proceeds to benefit DRAW (Drag Racing Association for
Women). He'll be part of Gary Scelzi's Superchargers team, which will face
Antron Brown's Burndown Bombers. Each team is made up of professional NHRA
racers.

"Growing up in La Habra, Calif., Little League baseball was my
favorite sport, by far," said McClenathan, who has 30 national-event victories
in 53 final rounds in his 17 seasons as a Top Fuel racer. "I was never into
pee-wee football or anything like that. I started off playing t-ball at a very
young age and continued on into Little League. I enjoyed it so much that I went
from playing to becoming an umpire at 15 before I stated racing. I was able to
be at the ball field and umpire games in addition to playing in them and I was
able to see both sides of the sport and I learned to respect how difficult an
umpire's job could be at times.

Warren’s “Virginia Twister” ’70 Challenger and Houston Platt’s “Dixie
Twister” ‘68 Camaro Funny Cars appeared at the event for the first time
since their restoration.

The East Coast Drag
Times Hall of Fame (ECDTHOF) week in Henderson, N.C., has proven to be
a must-see attraction. This year’s event, held on October 17 – 19,
braved the elements for the first time since its inception in 2002.

Two days of inclement weather and below average temperatures couldn’t
dampen the spirits of those who came out despite adverse weather
conditions.

An estimated crowd of 40,000 attended this classic hot rod, muscle car,
restored antique, and nostalgia drag car showcase that attracted some
1,500 entries. Lined up side-by-side on the main avenue or in adjacent
parking lots, the downtown section of this historic city was turned
into a hot rodder’s dream.

NHRA LODRS - LAS VEGAS QUALIFYING

Racers from across North America
have come to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to compete in the
Short Line Express
DSA_1745.jpgMarket Gambler Shootout, a round of the NHRA Lucas
Oil Drag Racing Series.  The event is the last of the season in the
44-race series and competitors are vying for last-minute points leading
to divisional and national championships.  By the time qualifying was
complete today, Michael Manners of Willis, Texas managed to hold on to
his No. 1 qualifying spot in Top Alcohol Dragster while Roger Bateman
of Calgary, Alb., moved in to the top spot in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Only eight cars in each of the two alcohol-fueled categories will be
around for eliminations and there were a total of 19 cars in TAD and 23
cars in TAFC trying to make the cut.

FORCE CAR CHIEF LEAVING TEAM

Fourteen-time Funny Car champion John Force will lose car chief Rob Wendland at the end of the 2008 POWERade season. rob_wendland.jpgWendland
and his wife Kathy, the daughter of Funny Car racer John Lawson, are
expecting a baby boy in December and the time demands of Wendland's
current position are too high, prompting the change.

"Working with all the crew chiefs at John Force Racing has been
phenomenal, especially Austin Coil," said Wendland, the 1999 Rookie of
the Year in NHRA's Sportsman classes. "He has opened my eyes up to a
whole different way of thinking when it comes to performance and
safety. He is truly my drag racing hero and I want to thank him for the
opportunity he gave me.

SNAP-ON PARTS WITH HERBERT

Doug Herbert had a contract in hand from long-time sponsor Snap-On
Tools that was unsigned when a phone call notified him they were
electing to end his contract, this according to Thatsracin.com.

Pending an eleventh hour procurement of a sponsor, Herbert may be on the sidelines for 2009.

DOUG VANCIL'S VEGAS BOOMER

Photographer Roger Richards captured the absolute essence of danger
associated with racing a Top Fuel Harley-Davidson. During the NHRA
Division 7 LODRS, former IHRA world champion Doug Vancil pushed the
head gasket out of his nitro-burner causing quite the spectacle. He was
uninjured in the spark/fire show.

HRP OFFERS MAJOR TEST SESSION

Officials for Houston Raceway Park today announced the 1st annual
Spring Stampede Preseason Test Session presented by DragRaceHose.com
which will take place Feb. 27-Mar. 1, 2009, at Houston Raceway Park in
Baytown, Texas.  Organizers expect race teams in the NHRA, IHRA, and
the ADRL sanctions to participate in this preseason test to tune their
hot rods for the 2009 season.

Houston Raceway Park benefits from incredible atmospheric conditions
because of its proximity to Trinity Bay, which feeds the facility cool
air.

“During this off season we are going to grind our concrete launch pad
to ensure we have the smoothest racing surface possible.  The track
will be in tip-top shape for the ground pounding 8,000 horsepower
machines that need ideal track conditions,” said track GM Seth Angel.
“We know that the ADRL will open its 2009 season here, the NHRA
O’Reilly Spring Nationals March 27-29th, and this test session will
allow everyone a chance to fine-tune their set-ups both for our race
and the upcoming season.”
