Doorslammer legend Victor Bray, the popular face of drag racing in Australia for more than 30 years, will join fellow racers Jim Read, Ash Marshall, Larry Ormsby, Eddie Thomas and Graeme Cowin as a member of the Motorsport Australia Hall of Fame.
Motorsport Australia is the peak body for auto racing in Australia and is affiliated with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, the governing body for world motorsport.
Bray was inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony held during the 2023 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
Bray began racing in 1982 and has gone on to amass six Australian championships, countless time and speed records and won the Willowbank Winternationals four times and finished runner-up on three occasions.
The third-generation tomato grower was also a major player behind the introduction of Doorslammer as an ANDRA category in 1996.
Bray burst onto the international scene on June 9, 1996, at the Winternationals, when he ran 6.29, 225 mph to become the quickest and fastest Doorslammer in the world.
Bray and his iconic ‘57 Chevy are arguably the most famous car-driver combination in Australian drag racing.
In 2017 Bray was diagnosed with skin cancer and, after undergoing a harrowing 15 hours of surgery, returned to racing at the 2018 Winternationals.
Bray’s son Ben has won two Australian Doorslammer titles and grandchildren Dakoda and Zac have raced in Junior Dragster.
