You know it must be something when an employer gives a glowing recommendation for a key team member to leave midseason and join another competitor. That’s exactly what Top Fuel driver Josh Hart did in endorsing his co-crew chief, Jason McCulloch, to join championship contender Justin Ashley and the SCAG Racing Top Fuel team effective immediately.
Hart, who will move to John Force Racing in 2026, said the decision was made to help secure the futures of his personnel as his team undergoes restructuring. “This is a great move for Jason, who I have the utmost respect for,” Hart said. “He’s a major talent, and this is a great opportunity for him to win another championship with Justin Ashley and the SCAG Top Fuel team.”
Ashley, battling for the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Top Fuel title, praised the addition of McCulloch to the SCAG organization. “We are all very excited to welcome Jason into the SCAG Racing family,” Ashley said. “His reputation speaks for itself. He brings another valuable layer of knowledge, expertise, and championship-winning experience to our program. We are grateful to Josh for his blessing and look forward to watching Tommy and Jason work closely together.”
McCulloch joined Hart’s program at the start of the 2025 season and quickly became a stabilizing force in the pit area. His career includes championships alongside tuning legend Alan Johnson and experience with powerhouse teams such as John Force Racing, Kalitta Motorsports, and Capco Racing.
“We brought Jason on to the team, and he was a positive addition,” Hart said. “This move has my full blessing, and I want to see Jason get another championship. He’s one of the brightest guys out here, and I appreciate everything he’s done for our team this season.”
