STORYTELLERS AT CPTV - WJ TELLS THE STORY OF "ARE YOU CALLING ME A DRUNK?"

There will only be one Warren Johnson, a man who epitomizes the philosophy of "don't ask the question if you don't want the brutal truth." However, in this instance, Johnson wasn't being brutally honest as much as he was attempting to be humorous. Well, this time Johnson caught 16-time champion John Force, while in his younger years, at a peculiar time.

04_22_2011_cptv_wofWe’ve uncovered another one of the popular 1970 drag racing documentaries, this one titled Wheels of Fire.

This documentary, according to the youtube.com channel was written and directed by Douglas Kent Hall. Wheels of Fire focuses on the lives of five major drag racers of the era: Don Garlits, Don Prudhomme, Shirley Muldowney, Richard Tharp and Billy Meyer.

This hour long movie was produced by Texas race promoter Buddy Boren.

You can buy this video on DVD AT Dave Wallace’s Hot Rod Nostalgia online store. This video is a neat find on YouTube but to be appreciated you must see it on the big screen in your living room.

WILD CRASH - DANIEL PHARRIS CORVETTE GOES AIRBORNE

Radial vs. The World racer Daniel Pharris took a wild ride during the Radial Revenge event in Tulsa, Ok. This semi-final race started out with Brandon Pesz pulling a wheel stand of his own, but then Pharris went out and stole the show in the impromptu wheelie contest. He was uninjured.

​Pharris was disqualified when he crossed the centerline.

CPTV FEATURE - DEAN AND ALESIA HARRIS AND THEIR GHOSTLY GASSER

The Southeast Gassers Association (SGA), drag racing's strictest period-correct Gasser series, has more than colorful and entertaining cars. The cars, in fact, almost pale in comparison to the driver's who pilot these crude replicas of drag racing history. In this video, you'll meet Dean and Alesia Harris' and their '65 Chevy II Gasser. A former street racer, Harris has found a home with the Southeast Gassers Association. This is quite the entertaining video.

ENCORE VIDEO - THE LATE MARK LYLE EXPLAINING FOUR-WIDE STAGING PROCESS

Former NHRA starter Mark Lyle was a man's man, the kind of race official who envisioned the big picture of drag racing accordingly. The drag racing community endured a huge loss when on Sunday, March 27, 2016, Lyle died in what has been described as giving his life to save another.

In going through our archives, we happened across this Les Mayhew video feature from the 2015 NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, NC. After a long and trying day of qualifying, Lyle took the time out from his personal time to explain the intracacies of the complex staging process. This was the kind of person Lyle was.

In this latest episode of Storytellers at CompetitionPlus.tv, the Golden Voice of the NHRA Dave McClelland reveals if he hadn't picked up the microphone to earn a living he'd likely have been a professional drag racer. However, if you had asked the late Steve Evans about one particular day in Bakersfield, he would have likely said "Big Mac" wasn't ready for primetime.

In this video, you'll meet the One Gone Dog team, driver Ernie Smith, his talented back-up girl and the Claytons, Bootsie and Sonny. This classic shoebox made its way to the Carolinas via California, and was purchased by the Claytons. In a way, the Claytons are indirectly responsible for all of this wild style of racing in the Southeast Gassers Association because of their family building Spartanburg Dragway, the launching point of many drag racing careers including Quain Stott's.In this episode, fellow Gasser racer Tim Greer interviews the them all in what could be easily described as one of the most entertaining presentations.
