Dallas Glenn and his KB Titan team knew they had a chance to go rounds on race day. They had one plan: to take down Aaron Stanfield and the Elite Motorsports team, which had been on a roll over the past few races. He did so from the No. 4 qualifying position.

Glenn secured race wins over Mason McGaha and Matt Hartford, including No. 1 qualifier Erica Enders in the semis to reach the finals. Meanwhile, the most recent race winner, Stanfield, nabbed victories over Chris McGaha, Jeg Coughlin Jr, and Greg Anderson before making the final round a KB Titan vs Elite matchup.

Both drivers were nearly similar when getting off the start line, with Glenn’s better reaction time of 0.026 to Stanfield’s 0.032. However, Glenn won by three feet at the finish line, getting his fourth Wally of the 2024 season. However, the win wasn’t all that easy for Glenn, who admitted he made a couple of mistakes throughout his round matchups.

“Second round, I felt like I missed the tree, and then I shorted low gear a little bit and then hit the chip in the next few shifts,” Glenn said. And this year especially, I’ve been pretty good at not doing that. I’ve been pretty good with shifting consistently, but every now and then, I’m human, too.

“And then the semis, I don’t know who was driving, but definitely not like me. I screwed up just about everything you could have that run. I accidentally double-bulled Erica. I hit the tree good, but then I really shorted low gear, and then I just completely blew it into the chip on the next two again.”

“And I just got plain lucky that she was a little too aggressive in the other lane. But we made some adjustments for the final, and I knew Aaron was going to be tough as always. Aaron is super tough. He’s a great racer, and I felt like that was probably the only lap today that I really drove really well. It made a hard move left, and I had to drive it out of the wall. I think I managed to hit my chips. I haven’t seen it yet, but I was really thankful that the Safety Safari sprayed from wall to wall here.”

By going up against Stanfield in the final round, the two drivers are great friends, but both have great race cars on any given weekend. Glenn knows Stanfield can put up a great race and have solid reaction times and vice versa. While knowing Stanfield can have a solid race, the Mooresville, North Carolina native couldn’t take that likely and trusted his car and team to get the job done.

“Yeah, he’s (Aaron Stanfield) got a fast car, he’s a great driver,” he said about Stanfield. He can hit the tree good, and he doesn’t make mistakes. You can’t make a mistake against him. All the crew chiefs got to do their job and give me the best car they can. I felt like we had the car, was driving great, and had the car to win and ready and just one that just got away from us there in the semis and was just a little too aggressive.

“So they definitely tried not to make that mistake today. They tried to make sure that they were a little bit on the conservative side. It’s a very hot day. I’m thankful everybody stayed out there to watch us race because it was definitely a warm one today. That makes for tricky racing, but I’m glad that Aaron and I put on a good show for them there in the final. We always have close races. I hate not having a close race against him.”

With the second round of the Countdown in the books and St. Louis being the halfway point in the playoffs, Glenn is in championship mode and has his eyes set on accomplishing more in the next four races.

“Especially in the Countdown, most of the season, I don’t feel like I’m on kill,” Glenn said. “I still feel like I hit the tree good, but I don’t feel like I’m on kill. But so far, in the Countdown, every lap I go up there in eliminations, I’m on kill. I’m trying to do everything I can. I can’t make any mistakes. I got to try to make sure I get every last bit in case it does shake a little bit and I lose whatever performance advantage I have.

“So right now, I’m on kill, 100%, all the time, and I know that he probably is, too. If you look at him, his lights are very consistent today as well. I’m sure he’s hitting it as well as he can. When it’s hot and greasy like this, you have to take gear away, you have to lower the chip. It makes it harder to cut a light, take the clutch off, and just everything you do just makes it harder and harder and harder to cut a light. I think that’s why if you look at Reading, there were a lot of double Os and teens and 20s. And then here, it’s all 30s, 40s, and 50s, and I think that shows. So we’ve been trying some things on the clutch pedal, and I’m really happy with it. I feel like it’s working well.”
