TRENDS NEW TOOL STEEL SOLID FLAT TAPPET

Trend has announced a new, premium tool steel solid flat tappet. Intended for use on cast iron camshafts, they suit Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, and Toyota V8s. trendtoolsteellifters2-300x263Ideal for engines turning in excess of 7,000rpm with higher valve spring pressures these new tool steel tappets are designed for short track oval racing, Bracket racing, and street use.

As direct derivatives of Trend’s highly successful NASCAR tool steel flat tappets, their chief advantage is multiple usage-they can be re-used many times. They can also operate on different cast iron camshafts. And they can be rebuilt and their crowns re-ground-in fact these tappets can last indefinitely by simply returning them to Trend for refurbishment when necessary.

The chief problem in creating a tappet of this quality at an affordable price entails economies of scale. But as Trend is already engaged in large volume production for NASCAR teams this new tappet program was a logical progression.

Furnished with a super fine surface finish of 1-2Ra and built from tool steel for durability and hardness (63-64RC), these premium tappets are lightweight (68+ grams) and are available with an optional EDM oil hole (.016in) in the foot or contact area. Almost indiscernible, the crown on the tappet foot measures .0015in deep with a radius of between 50 and 60 inches. By riding on the tapered lobe of a cast iron camshaft, the tappet crown rotates and therefore avoids premature wear.

Once in service the crown on the foot will exhibit a dull polished finish. At rebuild times as long as the dull polished finish remains, no refurbishing is necessary. This tappet cannot lose its geometry without losing its finish; therefore, if its appearance remains unchanged continue to use.

DIAMOND’S NEW TURBO PISTON FOR SMALL BLOCK CHEVROLETS

Diamond has announced new premium forged pistons with tool steel piston pins for turbocharged small-block Chevrolet engines.

Especially suitable for drag racing applications, this new piston is produced in 2618 aluminum and is designed to fit most 23-degree cylinder heads. Accepting up to 25lb of boost the piston features a robust .260in thick crown and Herculean pin bosses that accommodate tough H13 tool steel piston pins.

The piston pins are provided either uncoated or with a DLC coating. DLC coated pins are a sensible choice for engines equipped with a dry sump or with vacuum scavenging, where pin lubrication can be compromised. To lubricate the pin, these pistons feature double oiling ports in each wrist pin bore, which are fed from the oil control ring groove.

Lower skirt rigidity is maintained by a full circumference design that boasts the strongest known stiffening ribs, located just below the piston pin bores. The objective of these shelf-style ribs is to provide the necessary strength to combat high heat and pressure.

The top ring is placed .240-.300in down from the crown. Between the first and second ring lands a V-shaped pressure balance groove is formed to relieve any unwanted pressure between the rings. A Total Seal ring pack is provided comprising a coated stainless steel (AP) 1/16in top; a Napier-style 1/16in second; and a conventional 3/16in oil control ring.
Though anodizing is available only on custom designs, the extra protection provided by ceramic crowns and moly skirt coatings is offered as viable options on the shelf-stock items. Prices for these shelf-stock items begin at $815. Custom turbo designs are mostly completed in 7-10 days.

REHER-MORRISON ENGINE CRADLES

EngineCradleStdReher-Morrison's engine cradles are ideal for storing or shipping your Small Block or Big Block Chevrolet engine blocks or complete carb to pan engines.  These are the same cradles (stands) that we use in our shop for storage and also, to ship blocks and complete engines to our customers worldwide.

Commercial transports are often very rough on heavy items such as complete engines.  This can often result in damage to your valuable investment.  Years of shipping engines on various types of commercial carriers (i.e. UPS, FedEx and truck lines), have taught us what is required to insure our customers engines are received in good condition.

Our "STANDARD" cradles are made from 1.250" square steel tubing.  The stress points where the upright supports are connected to the base are reinforced by welded steel gussets to insure they won't bend or collapse from heavy handling like some cheaper stands made from lighter materials without the extra reinforcement.  These cradles are designed to support the engine block at the front by the engine mount bolt holes, and at the rear by the bell housing bolt holes and the bell housing dowel pins.  The outboard base supports are wider than most other engine cradles, which increases stability, and they come pre-drilled to accept the "OPTIONAL CASTER KIT".

Our "UNIVERSAL" cradles work extremely well for dry sump applications.  The flexibility of the two front legs affords plenty of clearance for the dry sump pump and oil lines.  Intended for use with front motor plates, these cradles have recently been improved with several upgrades.  We have welded steel gussets to the rear legs for greater strength and stability.  The two cross members at the base have been expanded to 2" in width and the cradles are pre-drilled to accept the "OPTIONAL CASTER KIT".  The 2 front legs, which are removable, are extra long so you can cut them to the required length to suit your needs.  The registers, that they bolt into, pivot both left and right, and also slide back and forth for easy alignment.

EngineCradleUnivThe "OPTIONAL CASTER KIT" contains four heavy duty casters that mount with 1/2" studs.  All four casters swivel for ease of movement and two have brakes to secure the cradle in location.

HI-6RC IGNITION FROM CRANE

Crane Cams has again expanded its’ lineup of advanced state-of-the art race proven ignitions.  The all new HI-6RC uses computer surface mount technology, in crane_HI-6RCa fully digital design for greater reliability – just what Crane Cams Ignition is known for.  Acceptable for use in PASS, CRA, ASAMT, Jegs All Star Tour, and WISSOTA racing series, the HI-6RC has a 6 pin weatherpak type harness plug for ease of installation, with a standard mag trigger input that can come from any type of magnetic trigger distributor.

The all new 20 degree start retard is built in so the HI-6RC assists the starter motor to fire the engine – especially when smaller flywheel and clutch packages are being used in the driveline.  To protect your racing investment, the HI-6RC has shock mounts included to guard against vibration, and is fully potted with a new, soft urethane for heat, dirt, and moisture protection.  Like all Crane Cams ignition boxes, the lightweight, anodized aluminum housing has cooling fins, providing more surface area to dissipate heat.  The HI-6RC is easily the most reliable CD ignition available, especially when used with Crane Cams’ PS92N E-Core Coil.

Want to choose your rev limit amount?  Go ahead, because there is an adjustable rev limiter built in with larger rotary switches that go from 900–9,900 RPM in 100 RPM increments, all of which are accurate within 30 RPM of the easy “click-in” detents, locking in the value.  Also, it is a sequential type, which means it is soft on the motor, no loud popping at high RPM, potentially damaging the motor.

Hard to start? No problem with a built-in 20 degree start retard feature.  Just wire to the start button, and you get retard to save the starter motor until the motor fires, then back to full advance.

Low battery a problem at the track? The HI-6RC runs with no loss of output all the way down to 8v.  The HI-6RC has a red light on the end cap to show you have a good power supply, and during cranking, it flashes to show a good trigger signal—another Crane Cams Ignition first, since 1995!
