HALSEY, SALEMI AND ESSICK LEAD RAIN-SHORTENED PDRA SUMMER SHOOTOUT QUALIFYING

A brief drizzle turned into a constant downpour, putting an early end to Friday qualifying at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Drag 965 Summer Shootout presented by Classic Graphix at Virginia Motorsports Park. The series was in the middle of the first qualifying session for Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition when rain started. A continuous heavy downpour led officials to postpone the rest of qualifying to Saturday.

WIN FOR TORRENCE IN DENVER COULD SEND A STRONG MESSAGE

The last two times NHRA has raced on Thunder Mountain, Steve Torrence has made the most noise. This season has been relatively quiet by his standards.

What is impressive is a third-place ranking is considered a slump. And no, it’s not because the four-time Top Fuel champion has forgotten how to win. Torrence’s so-called slump is by design.

Transitioning to a new engine-and-clutch combination designed to keep him competitive at the elevated performance levels established by rivals Mike Salinas and Brittany Force, Torrence thus far has been victimized by his hot rod’s uncharacteristic inconsistency.

THE LEGEND OF MR. DIRT AND HIS RENT-A-RACER

Mr. Dirt didn't invent the practice of renting a race car; he just made it fashionable.

For obvious reasons, Mr. Dirt prefers to keep his true identity unlisted, but it can be revealed with a reasonable amount of detective work. He prefers to have a race car he doesn't have to do anything to but put in gas, and even then, with the option to return it on empty - he can just run off of a pre-paid amount. He simply rents them and returns them after he'd picked up a fair amount of loot in the process.

CARUSO INKS FIVE-RACE DEAL WITH TEQUILLA COMISARIO

As the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series takes on the historic and sometimes grueling Western Swing NHRA Pro Stock rookie Camrie Caruso is fortifying her marketing relationships with the addition of award-winning, ultra-premium Tequila Comisario as primary sponsor for the three race stretch as well as the Topeka Nationals and U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Caruso and Tequila Comisario have much in common. Since its release Tequila Comisario has become the most awarded brand in the entire Tequila category and as Caruso’s rookie season has unfolded, she is off to one of the best starts in the category’s history.

“We are thrilled to add Tequila Comisario as a marketing partner for five races including the Western Swing and our biggest race of the year the U.S. Nationals,” said Caruso, who will be tackling the Western Swing for the first time this weekend. “This season has gotten off to a great start for our team and our marketing partners. Adding Tequila Comisario is huge for our team and we are excited to continue to introduce them to the great NHRA fans.”

Estate grown, in the unique appellation of the Highlands of Jalisco, with a unique terroir gives Tequila Comisario a slightly more fruit forward profile, yet keeping in balance the peppery, earthy spiciness of the 100% Blue Weber Agave, along with subtle, complex note from its barrel aging programs. The award-winning Tequila also has an ambassador relationship with Country Western star Colt Ford who will be performing at the U.S. Nationals and then later in the year at the Texas Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex.
