HIGHT SHINES AMID MAYHEM AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX STAMPEDE OF SPEED

The most impressive part of Robert Hight's Friday evening No. 1 qualifying run at the NHRA FallNationals is that he even made it to the finish line under power. Equally impressive is the fact he made it off of the starting line following a series of snafus.

But, he did, and in doing so, kept his dimming championship hopes alive by securing six bonus points in leading both sessions. However, the second session 3.878, 331.94 mile per hour run also netted him a check of $15,000 courtesy of the Texas Motorplex Stampede of Speed bonus.

ANDERSON'S ROUGH SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN APPROACH BEATS THE YOUNG 'UNS IN FRIDAY DALLAS QUALIFYING

Greg Anderson had a vision of what his Hendrickcars.com-sponsored Camaro needed to run if he was to have a chance to win the $2,500 bonus during Friday's Stampede of Speed at the NHRA FallNationals at the Texas Motorplex.

When you're at the back of the line to run, the experience can be tough to stomach.

TEXAS MOTORPLEX SET THE STANDARD FOR FUTURE DRAG STRIPS BACK IN 1986

When you look at almost every new drag strip built in the 1990s and later, almost all of them have a bit of Texas Motorplex inspiration.

That's how far ahead of the game Billy Meyer's vision was when the track opened in 1986. Take a look at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series roster of national event tracks, and it's not hard to see a bit of the Ennis, Texas-based facility.

CAMRIE CARUSO PLANS TO RACE FULL NHRA PRO STOCK SCHEDULE IN 2022

Camrie Caruso will become NHRA’s second full-time Pro Stock driver in NHRA history during the 2022 season. This was announced on Friday at the NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex outside of Dallas, Texas.

The third-generation drag racer will follow in the footsteps of her grandfather “Papa” Joe Caruso, and most recently, her father, Pro Modified competitor Marc Caruso.

“I’m very excited to make the move up to NHRA Pro Stock,” said Caruso, 23. “We weren’t planning on this, but everything kind of fell into place over the last few weeks. I think it’s going to be a cool opportunity with everything that comes along with it.”

WHEN BUILT, TEXAS MOTORPLEX BECAME ONE OF THE SEVEN WONDERS OF DRAG RACING WORLD

Some might find it hard to believe the Texas Motorplex, one of drag racing's seven wonders of the world, was inspired by the need for a clean toilet.

The year was 1981, and popular Funny Car racer Billy Meyer was driving his iconic Skoal Bandit Chevrolet Citation. After a season that started off with controversy because of Meyer's tobacco-based sponsorship in the Winston Drag Racing Series, Meyer's sponsor, Lou Bantle, the Chairman of the Board at U.S. Tobacco, decided to bring his wife to the drag races for the weekend.

VIDEO: THE STICK SHIFT STOCK COMBO AT INDY

There are numerous class combinations one can race in NHRA's Stock Eliminator. The only problem this creates really isn't a problem at all. Some classes only have one car to fight it out for the class crown in Stock class eliminations. When this happens, the NHRA fields a combo class and separates them from manual and automatic classifications.

We present to you the action from the Stick-Shift Combo Shootout.
