RUMOR MILL - WJ GUNNING FOR 300 MPH?

A story is likely forthcoming but we have heard rumblings which suggests The Professor Warren Johnson could be headed into the land speed arena. Yes, WJ on the Bonneville Salt flats. The rumor suggests he's going for 300 mph with a 300-cubic inch engine in a project with Dart Heads' Dick Maskin. We're shaking the tree, and we'll let you know what shakes out. 

RUMOR MILL - NEW FUNNY CAR BODY COMING SOON?

Looks like there's a new Funny Car body headed to the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Word has it the 2019 Dodge Charger body will make its maiden runs on Monday following the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk. Ohio. If all goes well we understand the new body could make its competition debut at the Mopar NHRA Mile High Nationals in July.

RUMOR MILL - JORDAN VANDERGRIFF LOOKING FOR THE NEXT LEVEL?

Bob Vandergriff Racing driver Jordan Vandergriff, whose father Kevin runs the family business Hedman Hedders, could be climbing the ladder of nitro stardom before the end of the season. We are told steps are already being put in place for him to not only earn his Top Fuel license but also quite possibly, enter a few races in the top eliminator before the end of the season. 

 

RUMOR MILL - MORE CO-CREW CHIEF TURNOVER?

It was just last week that Tommy DeLago was released from his role as co-crew chief for Kalitta Motorsports. Word comes to us today, another co-crew chief on a prominent nitro team was also let go from their role. Expect news of this to break in the next few days. 

 

RUMOR MILL - TOP TEN PRO STOCK TEAM CLOSING SHOP AT THE END OF THE SEASON?

One of the more prominent rumors floating around the pits at Heartland Park - Topeka suggests one of the full-time teams in the already narrowed Pro Stock entry list is already preparing for 2018 to be their final season. We'll be interested to see who shakes out when the bushes start moving.

Inside sources confirm past NHRA champion Jerry Savoie will have a teammate this season replacing the void left by LE Tonglet. We are told veteran rider Steve Johnson will be the rider. This could be a very good season for Vance & Hines' Suzuki-powered teams.
