Veteran nitro driver James Day will pilot Saye It Loud Racing’s Nitro Funny Car during the Texas Invitational, part of the Stampede of Speed opening weekend at Texas Motorplex on Oct. 4-5. The car features a throwback design celebrating the facility’s 40th anniversary.
Day, who earned his NHRA Funny Car license in 2007, has driven in both big show and nostalgia nitro categories nationwide. His career includes standout runs in Cecil Matthews’ Camaro, where he set low ET and top speed at Firebird Raceway’s 52nd Nightfires with a 5.591-second pass at 261.02 mph.
Known for his consistency and aggressive driving style, Day brings veteran experience to a field designed to thrill fans. His addition strengthens the event’s growing reputation as one of fall’s must-see motorsports showcases.

This year’s Texas Invitational coincides with the Stars of Texas Music Festival, blending world-class nitro drag racing with a star-studded concert lineup. Fans can enjoy performances from country favorites Pat Green, Chris Young, Clint Black, Mark Chesnutt, and Ashley McBryde, among others.
“Having James Day drive for us at the Texas Invitational is exciting for the whole team,” said Crew Chief Mike Guger. “When you mix Nitro Funny Cars thundering down the track with Texas’ biggest music festival, you’ve got the ultimate weekend for fans. We’re ready to put on a show.”
The combination of high-horsepower Funny Cars and live music cements the Texas Invitational’s place as a premier fall attraction. The event continues the Motorplex’s long tradition of blending motorsports, entertainment, and Texas culture into one dynamic weekend.
